Black friday

I need imformation about this Black Friday (day after thanks giving).
All i know it's a day for getting some bargains.
Do all shops in Florida have this day and are the shops mega busy for this day .
Also is this sale for one day only

Here's the deal: Black Friday is the official kickoff to the Christmas Shopping season, it is known as Black Friday because that is the day retailers supposedly begin earning profits for the year (i.e. out of the red, into the black).
All major stores and malls have Black Friday sales and open very early (5 or 6AM). Newspapers published on Thanksgiving day will have all the sales circulars that outline the sales. Another thing stores do to get you in early and create a buzz are the so-called "doorbusters". Doorbusters are items priced well below retail price (i.e. laptop computers for $400; DVD players for $20, etc.) that are lures to get you into the store. Here's the catch: There are a very limited number of "doorbusters" available at each store and only a few actually get them. People line up in front of Wal-Mart, Target, Best Buy, etc. HOURS before the store actually opens to get a shot at the super deals.
If you plan to do Black Friday prepare for crowds, crowds, crowds. Also, plan for chaos--pushing and shoving. It is amazing how people will act if they think they are missing out on a deal. It is definitely not for everyone. If you want a pleasant shopping experience, I would advise staying away---far away. Black Friday is more like the running of the bulls in Pamplona than a typical shopping experience.
Personally, there is no deal worth entering a retail store on Black Friday but many people go every year. It just depends on if you are into that sort of thing.

We went on Black Friday a couple of years ago and it was very busy but not unbearable, loads of bargains to be had!

We did the 5am start at the Florida Mall in 2006, mainly out of curiosity, and, as Suzanna says, it was madness. The carpark was probably half-full at that time and overflowing by the time we staggered out purchase-less an hour or two later (and its a big carpark).

We then tried a couple of other retail parks, but had to queue to park and the novelty quickly faded. From what we could see, aside from the early-bird specials the sales were not out of the ordinary.

It's much more fun to stay at home and watch the news reports of the riots that always seem to break out at a Walmart store somewhere!

i love black friday and if i'm in the states for thanksgiving, i always participate in the running of the bulls..

lots of fun...

this past year i was in the states for thanksgiving....and so, on black friday i was out of my mom's house before the sun came up....and back only after it had long gone to bed...
and everyone was in good spirits -enjoying that whole 'black friday' sort of humor....(aren't we all crazy for being out here)....

but you have to be in the mindset for that sort of insanity....perfect for me..

Ive been in the usa the last 2 years for black friday last year orlando the year before new york I found the deals great not every shop has a sale but most do.... And Kmart have a thanksgiving day sale and found that good too Don't think its all kmart stores that open that day

Some stores now open up Thanksgiving evening at midnight. That started a couple years ago and spread to more stores this past November so I expect that's going to be an emerging trend. This past year I went to the Premium Outlet Mall in Lake Buena Vista and got there around 1am. I figured there would be a few of us morons up at that hour! The place was absolutely jammed and not even all the stores were participating. It was so crowded that the security guards were parking cars up in the grass. The midnight to 6am sales were better than what was planned for later in the day.

It's very important to purchase the Orlando Sentinel newspaper on Thanksgiving (Thursday) because every major retail store will have ads detailing their Friday sales. Then you can plan your route.

I was in Florida for black Friday a couple of years ago and although didn't go and experience for myself was amazed at some of the newscasts regarding it. There were even some shootings (not in Florida)

I don't like fighting in the sales in the UK so wouldn't go and do it in the USA.

Hi Tony , i was thinking about the craft shops but if it's going to be that busy i'll give it a miss.
We arrive on thanks giving & UK Deb (i think) mention it on another thread & got me thinking about this so i thought i'd ask the question to find out more.
I will still do the craft shop's but wait for a quiter day.

Theresa got her Cricut in the sales and there wasn't that many queueing at Micheals, you will need to get there early and try to get the Orlando Sentinal the day before as all the best door busters will be in there.

Good Luck.

Also don't leave it until later to go as alot of the stores sell out and don't restock very quickly, they wait until the new ranges are released.

As Tony says, Michaels was very quiet when we got there. We got up at 5am to be there for opening at 6. This was no real hardship (even for me) as it was the beginning of the holiday and we were still on "british time". It was definitely worth it - I had two trolleys full of stuff! We had bought the Orlando Sentinel the day before and picked out all the flyers/vouchers that interested us and planned our route for maximum spending time! Incidently, some of the special offers are only applicable for the first few hours, so you have to read the flyers carefully. Even if you don't get any vouchers, there are still lots of good deals (The cricut and cartridges that I bought were just good sale prices - the vouchers weren't applicable to them).

By lunch-time we had been to Michaels, Sheplers, Bass Pro, The Florida Mall, Ritz Camera, and The Scrapbook Boutique www.scrappyboutique.com. After lunch - Mouse Memories ( a really great shop for Disney scrapbooking stuff - www.mousememories.com ) and then Joanns. We had a great time! We hardly ever shop in the UK though, so it's a bit of a novelty when we get to Florida.

The only place that was really busy was the Florida Mall, but not unbearably so.
Also, some stores carry the sales over to the Saturday too.

We also arrive on thanksgiving !!! We are planning on exploiting our jetlag to get an early start . The lasttime we went to the Black friday Sales my DD got a great bargain on a Sony PSP from walmart
