Black Friday Ads Started

Now all of our Walmart close from Wednesday night until 6am Friday morning. Every year. Even the 24 hr ones.

Kilee,
Hopefully that won't happen at this WalMart, but if it does, not a big deal. I will just hit it in the morning before we head to the outlets. Or skip it, since we enjoy beating the rush to the outlet stores (Brooks Brothers, Nike, Tommy H). Those honestly don't get crowded until about 9am. Go figure. But, I think most people are at the big mall in Iowa City. We save that for last... If it is too crowded, we just go to lunch. :)

However, what we have found is that if you go to Wal-Mart on Thanksgiving evening (yes - they are open), they will give you the Black Friday prices... at least at the Wal-Mart we go to in Iowa. We are then able to skip WalMart on Friday morning and head to the outlet mall and get those sales! Plus, there are no crowds in the evening. Also, they will match any other ad prices from their competitors... just bring in the ad. If the sales person is clueless, just kindly ask for a manager. They just want the sale and are super helpful.
I can tell you that here in FL the only store open on Thanksgiving evening is Kmart. I know this for sure because every single year, we always go shopping after Thanksgiving dinner, me, mil, and sil. The only place that is ever, ever open is Kmart.

I hope my favorite Iowa WalMart does not start that practice... but it might. Their employees deserve a break like the rest of us do - so I will forgive them if they take a day off! :)

Since they do not make the regular gameboys anymore, and the "micro" just came out, I'm thinking it would have to be the gameboy SP........just what I'm looking for!! And last year, I remember WalMart had the regular gameboy, and it was available for purchase online as well as in the store. Some of TRU offerings are the same way.

Maybe I'm confused but I thought they just came out with a new GBA. I was trying to decide which system to get my kids and the guy at TRU said the GBA was the best for the smaller kids because the screen folded down. He said the Micro was for like 7 yo's and the SP was for 11 ish because most of it used the stylus.

The think that made me think they were still making them was the guy said they just came out with the GBA with the backlit screen vs side lights. I've also seen ad's for Target (I think) that said the new backlit GBA's were in.

Although I did not see anything there I am willing to get up for and fight the crowds for I appricate your thread.

I love it when theses things are posted.

Well thats kinda weird as all the "official" stuff has held UPCs which means they cant be sold (checkouts wont allow it) till 6am- so they must be marking down the reg stuff which is odd...

Once again we have crappy stuff at 6am... Oh well makes it easy for me :)

Nicolepa - There are several different versions of the GBA. The older GBA has not been made for a while. It was the one with an exposed screen and no light.

The GBA-SP is the thing that folds. Both the older and newer versions of that fold closed and have light-up screens, but the newer ones are brighter. The SPs will play Gameboy and Gameboy Advance games.

The new Micro is very small and does have an exposed screen. It plays Gameboy Advance games only and will not play multiplayer games.

The DS folds closed and has 2 screens, one of which is touch sensitive. I would not recommend that one at all for small children because the stylus is easy to misplace and the screen can be scratched by rough use.

Hope that helps! :)

Last year our Walmart in SC was open early (so at least we didn't have to wait outside in the cold for the store to open) but all of the sale items were wrapped in butcher paper. They wouldn't rip the paper off until 6am.

Thanks! I told you I was confused!

We are trying to decide on whether to get the kids an xbox or 2 GBA's for Christmas. Nintendo has so many versions of the individual systems it's hard to keep them straight!

PS - on the Gottadeals forum someone is confirming that it is the SP version.

Do you know, as sad as this is, if anyone is open Christmas Day? We arrive in orlando around 2 PM and will have no groceries. We are staying offsite for the beg. of our trip. TIA :wizard:

Disneyland_emily,
For two years in a row we have gone to this WalMart on Thanksgiving day evening. The first year, I had a KMart flyer with me which had some good deals and was searching for those items so I could find them the next morning. I found a manager and asked him if they would honor those prices in the morning. He said "I will do you one better. I will honor them right now." He got a clerk and they gave me those prices. The next year, we went back. Same manager and he gave us the Black Friday prices Thanksgiving night. So - I am going to try it again this year to save me some time in the morning. :)

Maybe it is because it is a small town WalMart and the manager knows most people are going to drive to Des Moines or Iowa City to get the big sales, so he would rather get his sales any way he can.

Anyone know can I go put the gameboys on layaway and then go in and price adust and pick them up on black friday. That way I know I will have mine and not have to go to a empty shelf in disappointment.

No one knows black friday like the ones that have to work it.
Last year, me and Kari were both working two jobs, and they each had us scheduled right after the other. I think we worked 16 hours that day. And the poor dog that got left at home that got an upset tummy from having too much turkey the day before. I truly felt sorry for her. They really need to have a black friday for retail workers, when do we get our chance to get after those great deals? And we get to put up with you mad holiday shoppers. They can get scary sometimes. Especially when you work at a video game store and you tell them you're sold out of ps2, xbox, ds, and world of warcraft. All the main hits for last year.

2plus2: you probably can. Just go put everything on layaway now, and black friday say you want to take it off, and then take the entire cart and go to the check out. I'll ask my sister about it, she works for wally world.
You can also start your christmas layaways now. Ohh and some one else, said that they've never had a problem purchasing the items before hand then taking the reciept in on BF and having them give a refund. And you don't have to lug the items back in either. I guess it all depends on how nice the people are.

A few years ago a friend of mine put her stuff in layaway and then went in BF for the adjustment. I would never do it though. She waited in the layaway line for over 3 hours. Everyone in the store that was picking up BF merchandise was putting the stuff in layaway. This is a Walmart in NC. BF is a tradition with a friend of mine...I man the cart and she gets the deals! One year, we were both getting our stuff and parked the cart and someone took it! :rotfl2: At the time it wasn't so funny. It was the same year a lady got in a fight with another and they had to call the police. It was CRAZY. But every year since has been tame! :confused3

I know that sometimes BF items have "special" packaging & barcodes, so the "regular" stuff doesn't always qualify. Doesn't hurt to try though :flower:

Humm, Is anyone else having trouble getting the pictures to work?

I see one thing one my wish list. Anyone heard of the product, Venturer 6.2" Portable DVD Player?

Can you order the BF deals online too?

TIA!

As to the Venturer player, well I researched them last year that is the name Wal Mart uses so that they are the only ones with that brand. In Target last year it was sold under the name Kawisaki(like the motercycle not sure of spelling). I got my son a 7in+ one there and it has been very good. He uses it all the time, even hooks it to the tv to run dvd's and it accompanied us on our trip to fla. I paid 169 last year for the slightly larger one. It is a good deal if you ask me.
