We live in the northeast and the small black flies have been terrible this spring. Does anyone have a home remedy to stop the swelling and itching? My ankles are covered in their bites.

thanks

Have any hydrocortizone? That helps. If not, clean nail polish to cover and not let the air get to it. Hairspray does the same as the nail polish.

I know this sounds crazy, but windex helps stop the itch of mosquito bites. Just spray it on and let it dry. It might help with black fly bites too. :goodvibes

I use Benadryl gel, it has lidocain in too if I recall. Before I ran out to get that for skeeter bites last year I used Preperation-H. It has lidocain in it too,

Preventative, I have used vinegar in the rinse water instead of perfumy softener.

Add a can of Off to keep close. I have a small pump one with a clip to my bag for work. I am out doors for much of the field work. Everyone ask why the bugs are not bothering me as they swat around.

I swear by this stuff called Burn-n-Bite.

A bottle lasts forever as you don't need much and it works great! We use it for sunburns too and it's almost instant relief. (and this is from someone who burns just by thinking about the sun!)
