Black Bear Sighting?

My DW was reading this thread last night. When I asked it if worried her to wake up with a big snake laying in bed next to her? She replied (with a smile) that she does not worry about it on any other night, so why would the Fort be any different.

I was not sure how to take that answer, but I was kind of insulted.

"big snake laying in bed next to her"

Or it might be a "compliment"....:rolleyes1

When we checked in yesterday (site 1634) there was a letter in the welcome packet similar to the letter TCD scanned in. The CM that checked us in said that the state wildlife dept was called in April due to so many bear sightings by CMs & guests alike. They found a mama and two almost grown cubs. They trapped and relocated mama & are still looking for the cubs.

So much of their habitat has been destroyed, there is no place for them to go anymore. I've seen people try to approach all sorts of wildlife, and I'll bet there is some moran guest who would think that a bear at WDW is tame and approachable. They do it with alligators - why not a bear?

We went over to Epcot for the day 2 weeks ago and as we were driving along on WDW property and talking my wife stops mid sentence and looks like a deer in the headlights, says to me, you're gonna think I'm crazy but I swear I just saw a bear back there. Guess she wasn't so crazy.

She's not crazy. I see it all the time at WDW. It's wearing red pants, big shoes, and black tails.

Not far north of Orlando, at Wekiwa Spring State Park black bears are common. They have 'bear proof' dumpsters, and have warnings posted. It doesn't surprise me that with all the undeveloped land at WDW, that they are there.

I'd pack heat, those bears can be dangerous.

Besides that, I'm pretty sure that I don't want to be camping at Disney with my kids beside someone "packing heat":scared1:

You might be surprised the number of campers, especially RVers, who carry guns with them. All of our RV friends do.

I prefer one of these. Notice that the safety is on.

Turn off the light and close your eyes, the bear will be instantly out of sight. Fire the Mickey Musket in the air to warn the rest of the campers. Gatordad will then wet himself. While he is in the comfort station cleaning up and bragging about how he single-handedly fought off the bear you go to his camper, drink his beer and lock him out with the bear. Get a good night's sleep. No more bear problems.

:rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2:

Committing these instruction to memory for our trip in November. :thumbsup2

When the Yeti isn't working (which is most of the time) over at AK, he hangs out at FW. I don't mind him coming over to my site, but he doesn't know his Kungaloosh limit and is kind of an obnoxious drunk.

Ya, and guess who has to take him back to AK, me.

Is this like a snipe thing? A big inside joke to trick us City Mice?? The way everyone's joking makes me think there's really nothing to worry about... Do black bears even exist?!? ;)

I am very carefully not mention this to my mother.:sad2:

And maybe I should expend some effort in bear proofing my coolers.

You will NEVER believe this. Earlier this evening the black bear was at my site begging for beer!! It seemed he forgot to ice his down. He also sat in my chair & at my pic-i-nic table and started talking about TT's, toy haulers, 5'ers & pop-up's. I grew suspicious when he started talking about stealing beer from Gatordad. The bear looked a LOT like Donnie. :scared1:

No wildlife sighting would surprise me. In western kentucky, it's not unheard of to see black panthers. DH has seen one, and my grandaddy spotted one once or twice.

Course, there are also people who say that they've seen an ape-man and a goat boy, but I think that's an entirely different issue... :rolleyes1

No wonder disney sucks, the cubs can be found at 1060 West Addison.
