Hey everyone,
Just wanted to hand out some handy information. If you order gift cards from BJ's, be sure to ensure they are activated as soon as they arrive. Usually, we purchase gift cards right before our trip. In December 2020, I purchased some in hopes that our January 2021 trip would occur, but alas, we had to cancel. Recently discovered that none of the cards were activated correctly. BJ's admitted that the cards were not activated, but informed me by email that they will not be activating, sending a replacement or sending a refund for these gift cards. It's about $400.
I opted to call my credit card company, even though the purchase is from December 2020. They agreed to file a dispute as they stated the expectation is that gift cards with no expiration should be activated and remain activated for use, regardless of when purchased. They stated that if BJ's does not respond, a full investigation will occur. For once, I'm so thankful to keep all the paperwork that comes with the gift cards!
I've had issues with BJ's not activating before, and usually, it involves several phone calls, and usually, it's within days of receiving the cards that I notice an issue. Even though it takes hours to resolve, usually it gets resolved. Anyways, just wanted to give everyone a heads up as I was extremely surprised they'd admit that it was their fault and would not be assisting.
