Bizarre Yet Feasable Idea?

Hello Everyone. I've had a blast reading your messages the last few days. You are so knowledgeable and helpful! I sort of got this idea from mousesavers.com and tweaked it for our circumstances. Please tell me if this will work, if it's smart, and if you think it would save us money.

Currently we (my husband and I) have 8 nights reserved at the Boardwalk Inn, water view, for July 19 - 27, room only. We also own two hopper passes with four days left of five days from about five years ago. This was the original intent, but as we all know, the Fairytale package changes everything. I don't believe they are in any way keyed to him versus me, but I could be mistaken.

Question - Can I book the FT package for 7 nights (pay for four) FOR ONLY ONE OF US, then, when we get to the hotel, add a second person for the hotel. Then my husband can use our 2 X 4 days of hopper passes to get in the parks, just like me. We aren't water park people, and if we want to go to Pleasure Island one night then we can pay for his one admission. We would also add an eighth non-package night as it will take us 12 hours to drive home.

Mousesavers.com had an example of this where one person in the family could use their AP, if they had them and add them to the reservation at the hotel.

Am I nuts? Well....okay, does this sound reasonable?

Will this work? I have AP vougers If I got a pkg for one. and just used one of our Aps. I wonder what the deal would be for one person. Can you have both in the room with out buying the uphs?

My initial reponse is "no," though I don't know for sure. In the past, Disney has said that, to get a room/tickets package, everyone in the room must get the package, not just one person. Since AP discounts aren't part of any package, the rules governing AP discounts doesn't apply.

Here's what mousesavers says:

"In many families, one of the adults has an Annual Pass purely for the resort discounts, while the rest of the family isplanning on using regular Hoppers. In this case, you may want to book the Fairytale Vacation Package but leave the Annual Passholder off the reservation. Then just add the Passholder to the room when you arrive... and tell the desk clerk you don't need passes for him or her. Voila - everyone else in the room gets the Ultimate Park Hoppers at a big discount, and the Annual Passholder doesn't have to buy them. You cannot do this over the phone in advance - the agents will be unable to exclude one person on the reservation from the ticket component of the package."

Worst case scenario, they can say no at the desk and the one with the annual pass doesn't have a room key.

Will that be a big deal??

For some families, yes, for some, no.

Hi, Just a quick tidbit.. Prices are per person with Double occupancy right? So how would you do that? If you reserve for only one and pay for two you are really already paying for his share anyway... does that make sense? I don't know how you could get a single room and then add him at the checkin time. Unless you did just a normal 7 night stay with pass for one without FT package. Maybe look into what one in a room would cost. On a normal day the cost of room is a set price but with this FT package it is confusing.

I'm swimming in all this with the group sitting in the boat waitin for AP discounts............

Because Disney would quote her a price for single occupancy. All Disney rooms are the same price whether one adult or two occupies them. Only one ticket would be charged.

The Fairytale package is per person with at least two in a room. In the first post she says if she were to purchase the fairytale package with just one person, that is where I was saying the Fairytale package would still charge her for two people. Here is her question....

Has anyone called and asked about solo travelers?? The package is not geared toward solo so I bet room and park passes seperate would be cheaper for one.

We have actually done this(in a way). My DW, DDs, and I had a package deal with UPH passes and my FIL decided to go with us. He had days left on a previous pass. When we checked in, they just added him to the room without the UPH pass. We had to do this at check in. However, I don't know if they would allow this with this particular special. Hope this helps.

My logic is that the prices quoted for the packages are per person, assuming two people per room. That is all they mean by saying the price is for double occupancy. They don't mean that you HAVE to have two people, just that you can't assume prices on any other combination. It's still one whole room so obviosuly we won't get half price. I just want to save the extra UPH cost.

I did "ask" disneyworld.com to price one person for a dream maker package and it saved a few hundred dollars as compared to two people. I hope that since it was allowed for that package, it will be allowed for this one too.

Well, we'll find out if this works in a few hours and I'll post back here with, hopefully, my success story.

The only days they will possibly waive would be your day of arrival and your day of departure.

What you can do, is hold on to your hopper passes for a future vacation, as they never expire, and take advantage of the Fairytale package. I haven't seen a Disney vacation package THAT good EVER!

Have a great time, and know that when you decide to return, you still won't have to buy tickets!

Woo-hoo!! I did it! I switched our room-only for two to FT Package for one and the wonderful CM, Fanny, didn't even blink. She did ask, out of curiosity, if we would only have one person in the room and I told the truth and said "No" we would still have two. She then asked what that person would do about the parks and I said I had old park hopper passes and she just went on. I saved $400 over room-only. I didn't get into the whole 8 nights versus 7. I don't know how much I saved for doing this for two people versus one, but those park hopper passes are 5 years old and it will probably be 10 years before we can go back (I know - weep for me). I would rather use them now and save maybe $250 now than use them in 10 years. This is still about $550 more than I originally dreamed but that was at 50% off rack rate- ha - and we get more days at the park (eight each instead of 4 each).

Anyway, it worked!

We're going to Disney....We're going to Disney!!

I just reserved 2 GV Poly Concierge rooms for Sept. Told the CM that I only needed tickets for 2 people due to AP for other 4. She booked 1 Adult and 1 Child for 7 nights $4091. She said to just add the others to the room upon check-in. Awesome Deal! and straight forward.
