Will we need to take any insect repellant with us such as mosquito spray etc?

I am sure it wouldn't be as bad as when DBF and I went to Egypt last year...ouch!

:) Thanks

it depends...do they love you? I ALWAYS get bitten and always take spray/lotion with me...well having said that I take the AVON SSS body oil as they don't touch that stuff (its been proven) and it smells nice..
I remember standing waiting for a boat back from DTD to POR in Oct/Nov time and the little buggers got me big time!:rotfl:

YES if they like to bite you - I always get bitten but now I buy spray there and it defiantly helps as they now bite DH (he doesn't react to bites though) not me!

I've never been bitten even after discovering on a trip to Cuba that the Mosquitos love me...

Only time I've seen huge amounts of bugs was after wishes, getting the watercraft to the Wilderness Lodge. It was like walking through a wall of insects.

You only really get the nastier bugs near to (stagnant?) water don't you?

:goodvibes

no...I wasn't near stagnant water! I also got bitten all over at Old Town and got stung by a hornet! My husband never gets bitten:confused3

I don't apply insect repellent spray unless going somewhere like an airboat ride.

I do have a basic rule not to stand on grass though - on one of my first trips to Florida (miami) I naively walked across grass and got some nasty bites - still have the scar from one.

Twice when I was young (6 and then 9 years old) I walked across my mums friends lawn in Ft, Lauderdale and stepped into a fire ant nest. Seriously my leg was covered in them so much you couldn't actually see my leg!!

Nasty little buggers!

Thanks everyone! ;)

I think we will take a small amount of stuff with us as a 'just incase' kind of thing :)

I usually get a small amount of bites but not many at all! The worst I had was Egypt last year, I must have been tasty :)

I think what you really have to watch for is not the bite itself, but scratching the bites as bacteria under fingernails (and that's not suggesting anyone is not clean - but it is a fact) can cause secondary infections from scratching continuously and breaking the surface of the skin around the bite.

I don't generally get bitten but our last two September / October trips my ankles seem to have been nipped more. It tends to be more noticable when we have been sitting on the ground, especially at the pool.

In 2010 we must have brought something back with us (damn stowaway bug!) in our luggage. Early hours of the morning I was woken by such a sharp burning pain I woke myself by screaming  I also have a scar to sport - on my wrist. The dang thing swelled up like a balloon and had to be surgically lanced and I was given a course of antibiotics. :crazy2:

if you're only at WDW, it's not as bad as outside..
WDW sprays against insects on a daily basis, so they're not nearly as bad as everywhere else in orlando..

remember, central florida is essentially one giant swamp, the favorite place to be for every red-blooded mosquito :)

I was the same last October got bitten a couple of times and that's not normal for me. I bought after bite stuff at the okw store but they were still super itchy. Totally agree about secondary infection plus I find scratching them makes them more itchy.

Oh I'm no saint I just learned the hard way. Ice on them helps as well numbs the pain

I've just got back and found I got bitten most nights we were at parks during the evening - some eveings I got 5 or 6 bites however I didn't find them as bad as when I am bitten in the UK, they itched for a while but went down quickly. I did wish I had taken some repellant though....
