Well I fly on sunday and I woke up this morning with an ear ache , of to the doctors I go and yes I have an ear infection . Now I am really worried it does not go enough to not leave me in pain on the flight , I have been given antibiootics tablets and also ear drops so if any one out there is in the know should i be on the mend by sunday :confused3

oh no poor you.:worried: Antibiotics do kick in quickly nowaday and along with ear drops that you have it may not be gone but I am pretty sure you will be well on the mend by then. I know when I have had an ear infection before I felt the benefit quite quickly of the drugs.
Hope you feel better very quickly.

I totally recommend getting some ear plugs too as years back I had an ear infection after having flu and my ears did hurt. Hopefully your antibiotics will kick in quick and you will be fine x

With antibiotics you should be feeling much better by tomorrow night. By Sunday, you probably won't feel anything. I'd get some good painkillers for the flight in case (as your pharmacist) and possibly ones with a sleep aid if you don't intend to drive upon arrival.

I use ear plugs for flying as I have had ear problems in the past. Check with you GP first or ask the pharmacist.

there are special ear plugs for planes, not regular ear plugs..

also, my favorite thing to use when i fly if i'm having ear trouble is Otrivin spray.

i find it really really really helps if i spray my nose just before the flight and then again right before landing..

You should be feeling better in a couple of days from when you started the antibiotics. By Sunday...enjoy!

Hi not sure if you have read any of my posts before but i have just had Major head surgery along with Tympanoplasty "EAR SURGERY" to get rid of a tumour and a very bad Mastoid bone infection and Im flying in 8wks :scared1:, I have had a lot of ear infections over the last 6yrs and have flown a few times just after having one or having one on holiday and flying home....

Well You should by the next day or 2 be feeling the effects of the antibiotic drops so that will mean any pain or swelling should start to go down soaking in through the skin and going directly to where its needed by at least the next day or 2! by sunday due to the hard hitting of the oral antibiotics you should be almost rid/or over the worst of the infection since you managed to catch it so early on.I would make sure to take painkillers with you on the flight and if you can take anti-inflammatories they are the best sort for this type of pain and infection!! They will help with any effects you may have from the flying, I was told to take 2 four times a day the day before you fly, and then take the same amount the day you fly and during the flight!! This is what i was told was the best method by my ENT consultant every time i had an infection and was due to fly but unfortunatly im allergic to all NSAID'S so cant take them :( I would also suggest you definatly take A decongestant it will also be a great help so make sure to get some :)

Sorry this has happened so near to your trip! I hope you feel much better soon

Looks like you have received some good advice, just wanted to wish you a very speedy recovery :goodvibes

They're called "ear planes", and they're really super! Get yourself a pair, though you should be just fine for your flight Sunday, that's plenty of time on antibiotic. Have fun!

thanks so much everyone I knew my dis family would make me feel better , my ear is feeling slighty better today so fingers crossed I got it on time and will have no probs on the pain . Of out this morning though to by ear plugs and pain killers thanks again best wished to you all

Positive thinking works wonders.... Bet you'll be find come the day of the flight.

pleased to hear that you're feeling a bit better today. Hopefully all will be well before you fly.

My DD had an ear infection whilst we were in Florida in 2009 - she started anti biotics and ear drops on the Saturday and we flew home on the following Tuesday. She didn't take any pain killers and was fine on the flight. We had to go to the doctor when we got home to get some more antibiotics as we had to throw them away because her medicine needed to be kept chilled which is hard when you're spending a day in Orlando on going home day! Anyhow, he looked in her ears and said the infection was just about gone and was happy for her to not have anything else for it but re-prescribed the ear drops to finish clearing it up fully.

I get ear infections quite a lot :rolleyes2 and I was at th doctors on the thursday before flying Saturday last time - anyway I was fine 2 days of antibiotics & drops although it was fun trying to work out the timings on travel day :lmao:
