Okay, here's my question...we recently bought 160 pts of BLT so that is considered our 'home' resort. (I am very happy about that decision) If later on we should want to add on and we bought let's say 160 pts from AKL could AKL also be considered my home resort? My thoughts are, can I have the option of planning out vacations 11 months in advance at both resorts? I would plan on switching BLT and AKL every other year. But do I have the 11 month window for both? I guess I don't understand why you would buy into another resort if it didn't give you more to work with. Just confused. Thanks guys!

Whatever resort the points are purchased under does have home resort booking advantages of 11 mos. out.

When you add-on at another resort, yes, you do get the 11 month priority for those points only, since that is another home resort for you. You cannot combine your points from multiple resorts until the 7 month mark.

Since you're now a member, you can add-on for any amount you choose over the 25 point minimum, so you don't HAVE to buy 160 at another resort, but of course if that's the amount you want, then go for it. If you don't buy enough to get you what you want in a single year's alotment, then through banking & borrowing you could get what you want, and yeah, alternate where you stay each year.

We currently have 3 home resorts. We have enjoyed the home resort priority for each, but have also enjoyed mixing and matching our points at the 7 month mark. The 11 month priority is really important however for those very well traveled times of the year, or the hard to get resorts based on size - or a combination thereof.

OM Gosh...thank you! I've been scouring the boards for the answer to that question..Thank you, thank you, thank you! Now I know why people would want to 'buy around'.
I heard someone say something about how they couldn't book because they didn't have enough points available with that resort...can you borrow from say BLT for AKL?

You would have the 11 month window at BLT using BLT points and the 11 month window at AKV using AKV points.

I see you pretty much answered my other question...so if you don't have the points at that resort will they not let you book until 7 months out?
We found out my daughter will be competing there for the next 4 years in gymnastics so needing a 1 bedroom we'll be out of points by the year 2013 (due to banking and borrowing)...that's when I'll buy again. I'll be doing a lot of borrowing it seems....at least until 4 years from now!

You may use your BLT points to book AKV at 7 months but not 11 months.

Yeah, each individual home resort's points may only be booked at that resort from months 11-8. Then at month 7 you can mix and match as you need or want. So your BLT points could not be used to make an AKV (or any other resort) reservation until month 7 (and vice versa if you also purchase AKV).

During months 11-8, if you don't have enough points in your annual alotment to make your reservation, you would need to borrow from the next UY. However at months 7 and beyond, you could then use points from your home resort and other resorts you own if you'd like to make a single reservation.

you can book AKV at 11 months out with AKV pts - they can be banked AKV pts, current AKV pts, borrowed AKV pts or AKV pts transferred in from an AKV owner.

but banking and borrowing never turn BLT pts into AKV pts or anything like that.

No, the BLT points are 7 months at any other resort, even if you own at that other resort.

Here is an example of how you can work it for a 6 night stay:
Aug 1, 2010 you can book July 1, 2011 BLT 3 nights
Aug 4, 2010 you can book July 4, 2011 AKV 3 nights

At 7 months, you can see if there is availability at AKV July 1 for 3 nights, if so, you can book AKV with the BLT points and stay AKV for 6 nights.

Could you bank the AKL points from yr 1 ..... and then borrow the yr 2 BLT points? Outcome being (assuming 160 of each) yr 1 320 BLT points and year 2 320 AKL points.

that would be one of the reasons people buy into more than one home resort, yes.

if you borrow 2012 BLT pts, you can book in 2011 at BLT at 11 months using current 2011 BLT pts and borrowed 2012 BLT pts. you're still using only your BLT pts at BLT at 11 months out.

then you can use your banked 2011 AKV pts and current 2012 AKV pts to book AKV for 2012 at 11 months out. you're still using your only AKV pts at AKV at 11 months out.

then the next year repeat the process.

you've got it.
