Bistro de Paris?

DH & I have been to Epcot's World Showcase many times and have tried almost all of the wonderful restaurants there. I've made a reservation at Bistro de Paris, mainly because it is one that we have never tried. But I know that it is very expensive and doesn't seem to be a popular choice among DISers.

Does anyone have an opinion on Bistro de Paris? Is it worth the cost? We've eaten at Chefs de France a few times and really enjoyed it. If you recommend Bistro, is there anything in particular that we should order?

It is not a popular choice among Dis posters because it's not on the dining plan and, while children are admitted, it is not particularly child-friendly, it is a more upscale atmosphere and there is no published children's menu - you have to ask for one.

If you're looking for something more upscale than Chefs de France then yes, it will do fine for you, but you will not find the same food as is served downstairs at Chefs.

Given the choice I would always take Bistro rather than Chefs. I prefer the ambiance, the slower pacing of the meal, and that there are very rarely out of control (or even excessively noisy) children there.

And, as Nala said, it does not accept any DDP (although it does accept TiW) and does not have a children's menu.

I think it's much beter than the Chefs. Though now that folks can order off the children's menu FROM the Chefs, there are far more kids at the Bistro than there used to be--which were usually none.
But it's still a lot more quiet and upscale than downstairs.

Got to agree with the folks who recommend Bistro. :thumbsup2

Val & I did both Bistro and Chef's in January on two separate nights - you can read our review for more information.

Bistro is wonderful and while it can be a very expensive meal it doesn't have to be - they do accept the Tables in Wonderland discount and they also accept Disney Visa Reward Dollars (we've used both). The food is among the best you will find on property, especially within a theme park, and the service is excellent.

I have to echo the others ... the only reason you don't hear much about Bistro is because it doesn't accept the dining plan. But you will see more children there than in the past only because they are apparently allowing parents to order from the kids menu at Chefs de France.

The decor is very pretty and as a whole, even with younger kids showing up now and then, the restaurant is a welcome oasis of quiet compared with the zoo downstairs.

Another thumbs up from me. When DH and I went for a dinner without the kids a few years ago, this is the place we went. We've dined there twice over the years and thoroughly enjoyed both meals. One of the times we were there I had a nice thick steak that was so tender you could cut it with your fork. Delicious!

Now that DD is studying french in high school she wants to go there to try it out. However, we won't be going on our next trip because I limited the kids to 2 signature restaurants for the trip and they chose other restaurants. We have the TiW card and never do the dining plan, so not being on the dining plan isn't a big issue for us.

This is a great restaurant for a romantic meal within the theme parks. ::MinnieMo

We ate at Bistro de Paris last week and it was wonderful. Expensive, yes, but so good. My husband had the rack of lamb that he loved. My son and I both had the filet mignon. It was very slow and pleasant. No rush for dining. The dining room wasn't noisy and there were quite a few diners, including children.

The butternut squash soup was so tasty.

While that may be true, this isn't a great place to take kids who are not accustomed to eating at upscale restaurants. The service is paced classically and people who eat here are sort of expecting a quieter experience. Since we have young children we stick to the more boisterous and family-designed Chefs. It's their vacation too! No need to keep them hushed up for a meal.

I couldn't agree more, especially when parents drop into Disney mode and let their kids run circles around the restuarant, which did happen the last time we dined there this past October. No restaurant is safe or appropriate for this kind of behavior, but Bistro is especially dangerous because of the tableside carvings and flambe' they offer.

So, thank you for being considerate of your children and other patrons ... we really appreciate that! :goodvibes

Sorry to disagree, but Chefs de France isn't made for children to run around. Even Whispering Canyon Cafe isn't made for that. Children should be able to sit at the table and color or eat or something and not disturb other diners. Nothing wrong with them having fun, but using an inside voice is a must.

Tell that to the group of tweens and little kids who were running around Bluezoo pushing a baby in a stroller while the adults in their party laughed at how cute the whole thing was.

Chefs de France is actually not really quiet, it's kind of loud in there, but I'd agree the kids should sit in their seats and not run around the restaurant, the aisles are narrow and servers could trip over them.

Boy I was really surprised by the reviews of the Bistro. I eat at a lot of upscale restaurants - as my friends can vouch - and have eaten at all the restaurants in Disney except V&As - with the Bistro being the last I tried on my last trip. I was very disappointed in the food - the appetizer was good but the rest just mediocre. Two of the women at the table next to me sent their food back... I found the service slow as well - had trouble getting my water refilled. I have no plans to go back. Maybe it was just a bad night, but at those prices I expect better than mediocre. Next trip I have ADRs for CG, Jikos, Brown Derby, Flying Fish, and the Blue Zoo.... and lunch at Chefs!

Thanks for all the great replies everyone! Has anyone had the sea bass entree or the smoked salmon appetizer?

I have to agree with Redbud above me. DH & I went a few years back, and we didn't see what all the fuss was about, either. I had a lobster tail risotto, which the risotto was still crunchy and very, very sticky (I make risotto regularly ... this was not prepared correctly), and the lobster tail still had very tough membranes attached to it.

DH doesn't even remember what he ordered. Like I said, just not very memorable.

And the only reason I remember the lobster risotto is because a couple months later, DH and I drove down for a day trip to DTD for shopping and dinner and at at Wolfgang Puck's upstairs dining room and had their lobster risotto. It was beyond perfect in every way. Less expensive, too.

Honestly, for an upscale dinner in the Epcot area, I'd head over to the resorts behind it.
