Bissell Pet Hair Eraser question

For all you owners of the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser, I need your help. We (my husband) were vacuuming and the inside of the canister seemed to get clogged so we tried to clean the top part of the canister and didn't realize the plastic piece in there comes out, so it accidentally fell out and ended up cracking, so now we can't get it to stay put in there.

It's not the canister that you take out to dump the mess, its the part up inside the top of the canister. So, the vacuum seems to still work fine and I'm just wondering if anyone knows how important that piece was and what was the purpose of it? If I can get away with not using it, then I'll just keep using the vacuum because its only about a month old. TIA!

I had the Pet Hair Eraser and returned it, and my previous Bissell had a similar design inside the canister. Did the part break or can it be twist-locked back into place? I might take a little fiddling to get it back in - I kind of remember having a problem with it too.

if you're referring to the big gray piece at the top of the tank, that part is removable and can be twisted back into place. Ours gets clogged A LOT and I have to take it out to clean it. Where is it cracked? I hope it's not broke!

Bissell is awesome about replacing parts. Sometimes for free. Take your owners manual, and locate the part # from the diagram. And contact them for a replacement. If its a part that they've had lots of complaints about breaking, usually you won't have to pay for it.

We had a part on a Bissell Little Green Clean Machine that just kept breaking.

Thank you all so much for the great replies! I am referring to the gray part inside at the top of the canister, I think its called the cyclone. Anyway, my husband didn't realize that it unscrewed and so he was trying to clean up in there and the piece cracked and fell out, and now we can't get it to screw back in.

We bought it at Best Buy and they said they won't exchange a broken item. So, then we called Bissell and they weren't very helpful other than saying we can ship back the entire vacuum and they will send a new one and I"d rather not do that if I can just buy the part thats broken. I have been researching places online where I can buy vacuum parts, but I"m not sure if they are legit. Does anyone have experience buying vacuum parts from online stores?
