Birthdays onboard?

So, I'm taking my sister on her FIRST Disney cruise for a girls week out in January, and we'll be on the ship on her birthday. I did note this on the reservation when I booked the cruise in hopes of some Disney magic for her. Has anyone else done this, and if so, what happened? Did you have to make any special requests onboard? I know I can order a celebration cake and have the room decorated, but is there anything else?

Go to guest services and get a Happy Birthday button for her to wear, then the cast members know and will comment on it when they see her!

We celebrated my daughter's birthday last year, and they brought her a special dessert out, and the whole serving team sang to her. She was only turning 2, but LOVED it when she realized it was for her :) We saw the same thing happening on other nights as well for other people.

The cruise before we were celebrating our anniversary, and they did the same thing for us (just sang Anniversary instead of Birthday). Husband hates the attention...but they DEFINITELY went above and beyond on both occasions to make everyone involved feel special :) And we didn't do anything in either case other than note it on our reservation.

Thanks! I didn't know they did the buttons on the ship - they didn't used to (as far as I know) and the only people I ever saw that had them got them at the parks.

How old will your DD be turning?

My youngest had a bday (9th) on disembark day, so we celebrated night before. We also got the birthday button/pin. We did the cake -yummy-pre-ordered ahead of the cruise. No candles, no balloons onboard. I did also have invites printed ahead of time, mostly for marking the event for ourselves - we ordered off the Disney website, but Zazzle filled the order. Date, time (main dining), place (name of ocean we were on as it was a sea day), etc. There were lots of tshirt options also - semi custom and we thought about getting same/similar t shirts too, but did not do this.

We brought 1 birthday card with Disney Charaters on it to have signed. At the time they were only signing one item per stateroom, but I'm not sure they do this anymore at Guest services.

Have fun!

It's my younger sister... she'll be 31, but is still very young at heart! :)

If you call DCL before your cruise and let them know about the birthday, the button will actually be delivered to your stateroom along with a special "celebration" certificate which also makes a great keepsake :-)

I got birthday buttons on our cruises in 2010 and 2014.

I noticed too on our last cruise as well as at WDW that other guests will often wish you a happy birthday in addition to the cast members. Always a nice surprise.
