Our ds turns 3 at the end of April and we usually stay at the cabins in May. We’re thinking about going for his birthday instead this year but how does that work with tickets and stuff if he turns 3 during the trip? We have APs so we would get one for him. Will we have to buy him a pass in the middle of the trip? I’ve read people say Disney goes based off of the age when they start the trip so what if we start his trip a few days before his birthday?

You stay your age for the entire trip. So if you start the trip before he turns 3, then he'll be 2 for the entirety of the trip.

What happens on his birthday if they ask his age and he blurts out that he’s 3?
Get him a “Celebrating my Birthday“ pin from guest services. Surely any CM who sees the button will catch on immediately that he likely turned 3 during your trip. I wouldn’t worry about it at all!

I was worried they would say “oh he’s 3 now so you have to pay for him” at meals and stuff. This is new territory for me lol

Occasionally you get a rogue CM who might make you pay, but I feel like I can count on one hand the stories I've seen about that happening.

We ended up booking in May after his birthday. That’s when we normally go and I didn’t feel like dealing with going over his birthday

They should all know the rules, you just explain to them that he just turned 3 during the trip. If they hassle you, just ask for a manager. But honestly, the front line cast members don't care enough to give you a hard time about it, especially since they know that they will get in trouble for it.

We ended up booking in May so we don’t have to fool with it lol. We’re getting him an AP anyway so it wasn’t a problem to move the trip later
