I'll be there for my Dec bday, traveling with only one of my children. I would like to buy us a fun treat on my birthday. As I've not been to either park, give me your best suggestions! I'm not going to order a cake since it is only 2of us. I am open to trying several treats throughout the day. Suggestions in park and DTD are welcome.

Cupcakes? Where are the good, moist and worth the calorie ones? I read another post where someone mentioned Whoopie Pies -any good, are there a variety? What about other special desserts? Any particularly good ice cream?

Since I'll be with my 9yo, we will not likely do sit down restaurants unless there is one that would be a good use of time - tasty food, relatively quick service, interesting atmosphere, so suggestions are welcome here too.

I am a cupcake freak and I don't like any of the cupcakes at DL :( I did love the Bumblebee Cupcake at Hungry Bear, but sadly it is gone!

Some of my favorite treats are...

Chocolate covered pineapple (available at any of the candy stores)
Peppermint ice cream from Gibson Girl (even better in a chocolate dipped waffle cone)
Any of the dark chocolate sundaes at Ghirradeli

and my absolute new favorite is the red velvet cake pops!!! Delish! I october I had one that looked like a Mickey mummy!!!

Good suggestion on the cake pops TLovesdis!! I know what you mean on the cupcakes-often hard to find moist ones. And chocolate covered pineapple is so good, but can't find it too often in the regular world! Is Ghiradelli in DTD?

A lot of awesome treats can be found at the Jolly Holiday bakery, including the Matterhorn Macaroon, the 60th Anniversary Celebration Cupcake (which is lemon cake with strawberry filling and champagne buttercream frosting and I bought 2 on our trip because I thought they were delicious!!) And the Raspberry Macaron of the meringue variety with fresh raspberries inside, SO GOOD! The passion fruit Macaron was given to us complimentary because one ear was broken and it was waaaayyyy too sweet for both of us! I'm also fond of the candy treats and caramel apples behind the counter at the sweet shop on Main Street! I always leave wishing I brought more home, especially the English toffee and Krispy treats!

Ok, I just looked up the Jolly Holiday bakery on th app. I'll know where to go! Thanks for the recommendations!

Also, Ghirardelli is in DCA (down by the pier foodcourt area) and it is pretty awesome for ice cream! Lots and lots of options to satisfy your sweet tooth! My favorite is splitting the banana split!

I think the frosting is white chocolate. That's what it tastes like anyway and it's hard, not soft like cake frosting. Its delicious!

It's in DCA! Trust me, if you love cupcakes the way I do, then you will love the cakepop! Don't waste your money on a cupcake in DL!!! I am on a very low carb diet and stuck to it the whole time I was in DL in September, except for two of the cake pops! Had one the first day and one the last day!!! My only other 'treats' were pickles and pineapple from the fruit stands!!!

Thanks! So it sounds like Jolly Holiday bakery in DL and Ghiradelli in DCA are the places to go. The Matterhorn macaroon sounds yummy! Good to hear there are also some of the French style macarons too -they are usually so colorful and just a couple of bites. DD often enjoys a cupcake, so we'll see what is available when there.

Ice cream is one of my weaknesses and I've been known to make lunch out of a sundae - special occasions only, so sounds like that might just happen.

I think it's a combination of white chocolate and royal icing. It's not really the consistency you'd get from just white chocolate. I should have described it as icing, not frosting.

Good for you! Yes, I'll have to keep in mind not going too crazy. Cake pops are pretty yummy, and I can appreciate the decorated ones. I made basic cake pops once before - only one color coating, and it was challenging.

So, I forgot to ask where are the cake pops sold? Also at the bakery or elsewhere? If they are not displayed prominently they can be easy to miss.

I got one at the candy shop on Buena Vista Street in DCA and the other in DTD at Marcelines. They also have them at the candy shop on Main Street. They might be at other places, but those three for sure! They are easy to spot, they are in the case with all the other yummy treats! Since you are going in December you will see the holiday ones!!!

These are the ones I got! Same flavor, different design...

Another option would be the caramel apples... they have all different flavors and characters, and they are amazing!
