Birthday that made you go, "YIKES!"

Mine was this year - turned 66 on March 1. Holy Cow, I'm closer to 70 than 60.
My husband experienced the YIKES when he turned 25.

Mine was my 50th. I still feel mentally like I'm in my 20s, but ever since turning 50 I notice my body starting the physical signs of aging. I look into a mirror sometimes and wonder how that old biddy got there when inside I feel so young!

I agree with feeling younger than my age. Funny too when you look back at shows made in the 60s. Aunt Bee went from 58 to 68 during the Andy Griffith show. I always thought she was older. Granny Clampett was probably younger than me!

I think it was my sixtieth birthday. My heart skipped a beat when I read my birthday cards. However I’m almost 74 now and feel so fortunate to still be here and relatively healthy. Many people aren’t as lucky. Thankful for every day and every year.

My brother is 18 months younger than me. The last time we visited he told me he was turning 65 and I thought, "Gee, he's getting up there" before going, "Umm, yeah, I'm turning 66."!

I don’t know why, but 30 really messed with my mind.

I had long hair, and I felt like I needed short hair to bring in my 30’s. I think I thought I needed to look more mature or something, so I cut it super short.

I got over it though and I’ve grown it out many times since then.

I remember having to learn what a "score" was in grade school when we were studying Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. Seems like yesterday and a million yrs ago at the same time!

Mine was 40. That was due to just all sorts of stressful life events, just where I was in life, where I didn't want to be in life, etc. Complete mid life crisis. 50 was nothing. Just another birthday.
Now that I'm creeping on up there, I do think 56 might be a wake up call, and then 60. Depends on what's happening in life I guess.

I was just thinking, I could also see people having a yikes birthday as they approach the age when one of their parents died.

None really. I think everyone kind of gets a little jolt when they reach a new decade. I’ll be 62 this year and it’s just a number. I certainly don’t feel that old. I’m 20 years older than our son and I see him getting grey hairs now which is weird. What really makes you think about age is watching how fast your grandchildren are growing. Our oldest grandchild just turned 13 and it seems like just yesterday when I was holding her as a baby.
