BIRTHDAY SURPRISE

We just tagged on four extra days to spend my DS 6th birthday at Disney. We will be staying at the GF. Are there any special things that resorts, Parks or restaurants do on this special day for my son? Any neat perks that come along with a birthday celebration? Do I need to ask about these things in advance? We would also like to have a unique birthday cake for him as well. Thanks!

Pick up a Birthday pin at whatever park you go to that day. You will be getting a lot of Happy Birthdays! your DS will feel like the most popular kid around!

We're going back in Dec. for our dd's 6th birthday. She spent her 5th birthday at WDW last year, and got all of the birthday buttons from each park. She wore them every day of our trip and loved the extra attention! Sometimes the cast members do extra things, but don't expect them, that way when they happen it's a little extra pixie dust. Our dd received free desserts at a couple of places, that was nice. You can also order birthday cakes, there's a thread on the restaraunts board that has lots of pics and phone numbers. Depending on where you want to have dinner on his birthday, you may have to call the restaraunt directly to order the cake. You will need to call 48 hrs. in advance. Have fun!

The birthday buttons at the parks are free. If it's noted on any of your dining reservations, he may get sung to or receive a birthday cupcake. The resorts will sometimes supply an autographed photo of a favorite character. Sorry for the use of the bold feature, but I do want to point out that complimentary gifts are not to be expected. These boards are sometimes a double edged sword in that they give great information, but with people posting about magical moments that they've received, others might feel that it's to be expected. If you want to guarantee something special, you should pre-arrange and pay for it. At the GF, they have a bakery department which will do birthday cakes. I think they start at about $25. You can call the resort and ask to be transferred to 1900 Park Faire and then the bakery. They'll have some wonderful ideas for you.

A few other places to check out are the Disney Florist at www.disneyflorist.com . They have flower arrangements, gift baskets and balloons. These will be delivered to your resort room.

Check out fellow DIS'er Feralpegs site at http://www.peggyssweetsandmore.com/ . Her custom baskets are so cute.

my dd4 just celebrated at disney last week. All the TS did something special for her during the week. One of the most fun was at WHispering Canyon at WL. THe waiter was a lot of fun and had all the little boys in the restaurant come over and sing happy bday to her. It was actually two days after her bday and he had asked me that in advance. After singing happy birthday he gave her a free dessert and then took it back and said "wait a minute it isn't your bday. Your bday was Tuesday so I'll just eat this dessert". He sat down beside her and started eating it. SHe thought he was so funny, but he had another one behind him for her. He also made her a "special" bday hat out of the napkins and she thought she was hot stuff!!

Here is the cake I ordered for DW's birthday a few years from the GF bakery. I think it was $40.

Wonderful ideas. Thank you everyone. I am sure he will love the Mickey cake. Was that ordered thru the GF bakery? Also, how did everyone know it was your child's birthday? Did he/she wear a lanyard saying it, did you just tell them each day, was it in your PS ressie? How do we get the free birthday pins at each park...a certain gift shop?

The cake was ordered through the GF bakery and arranged for delivery through in room dining (the bakery set up the delivery through in room dining, but I double checked at check in). The bakery can do other cakes. But the Mickey cake was kind of different.

The bakery's number is 407 824-2978.

They are available at Guest Services in each park.

Snurk71, is there a place to see different examples of cakes that the GF have?? I wanted to get one for my mother for her birthday, but I wouldn't have any idea what to ask for lol

thanks!

GF bakery doesn't have a web site or anything to see pictures of. There is a thread over on Dining of birthday cakes - pictures of cakes from all over (restaurants, other resorts, etc).

The bakery can probably do anything you want. They would probably prefer to steer guests to either the Mickey cake or a "regular" round cake (either 6", 8", maybe even a 12"). I think they'll offer different cake flavors, fillings, and icing.

Here is a picture of a "regular" cake they did on another trip.
