I convinced my DH (didn't really have to do much!) to go to WDW in March to celebrate DS's 13th birthday! We're just in the very early stages, but know that he'll have a day off from school, ON HIS BIRTHDAY(!) which is a Friday. We're thinking we'll leave after school on Wednesday and spend Thursday - Sunday. Thinking of staying at the BWI for it's proximity to EPCOT, which is pretty much our favorite park.

The hardest part will be keeping it a surprise! That's why I'm posting here -- can't talk about it to anyone else but DH. The NEXT hardest thing will be planning meals for just a long weekend. We have too many *favorites* to choose just a couple.

Trying to figure out where exactly we'll eat on his birthday. Anyone have ideas of where they REALLY celebrate birthdays? He loves breakfast at CP and Boma. And he really enjoyed 'ohana and Beirgarten last trip. I joked with DH that we should plan a "princess" meal to take pictures of him with beautiful girls on his 13th b'day.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Your son will be so excited! This sounds like a great plan.

I just posted on the happy dance forum that we're leaving tomorrow for a long weekend of Grandparents and WDW and we just told the kids this afternoon. Lots of whooping and hollering. We had a good time keeping the secret but it was hard, remembering who needed to know ahead of time and trying to do it quietly. I'm sure it will be the same for you.

Staying near EPCOT is a great idea: lots of other things to do nearby and easy access to the park. What else are you thinking about for the weekend? It is hard to narrow it down, but I'm sure you'll figure it out.

Have a great time planning.

I'd love to know how you kept it all a secret for so long. Have a GREAT time!

I don't have any details nailed down yet -- maybe Chef Mickey's for the birthday dinner... thought he really enjoyed eating at 'ohana and the atmosphere is so much more ... well...nicer. If he was a really *sporty* kid, I'd automatically do the ESPN club, since we'll be staying nearby.

Another reason to stay at the BWI is the actual Boardwalk. WE just love that atmosphere! The kids enjoy the shows and getting to participate.

Thanks for sharing my excitement!
