I was wondering what everyone thinks about getting a birthday pin from City Hall when the b-day is a week or more away?

Our son's 6th B-day is on the 20th. We will be at Disneyland the 4-11th. Joe is developmentally delayed (he functions at a young 3yo level), so he does not realize what day his birthday is.

He lights up when he hears anything "birthday" related. He insisted it was his birthday this summer when it was his cousins b-day...we ended up singing to him too. :) If he were to hear CM's telling "Happy Birthday" during our trip, it would make his day.

Should we get him a b-day pin during our trip?

Oh, you HAVE to get the pin! Nobody checks the actual date of the birthday! They realize at DLR that many people go to 'celebrate' their birthdays on other days than the actual date, so they don't care. It is just a pin, not free money, that they give you, so get the pin for your sweet little boy, have him wear it and watch as everyone greets him throughout the park and sometimes even gives special treats!! He will love it!

We do this all the time. No problem. No one cares if it's the actual day or not.

get one your son will love it and they will not ask for dates or anything my sons going two or three days after his bday and were getting one oct 5th

I say as well, just go and ask for the pin, for many people do celebrate their birthday before or after visiting Dl.
I wish that I had known about these before, but oh well, at least I know about them now, from previous threads on this site. Although, I was rather thinking about asking for one, even though my birthday is in April, maybe that is pushing it a bit, ;) but my original plans, did not go accordingly, for various reasons, so as to visit DL, during that time frame. I probably won't ask, for it is a bit of a difference between April and August! ;) he he!

They want people to celebrate. Are you celebrating his b'day while there? If so, get the pin! No grey area, celebrate what you want, when you want. :)

It says "Happy Birthday", not "It's my birthday". :)

That's totally fine. My mom came a month before her birthday as a birthday trip, and wore the pin everyday :)

Yes do it! At any of the sit down restaurants (like Cafe Orleans) you can add a Birthday Bucket for $20. It has a little Birthday cake in the top and the stickers and a pin and other goodies in the bucket. Also be sure to take him to the tortilla factory he will get a 12 pack of tortillas for free.

Have a great trip!

Bumbershoot, I like your thinking! :) matter of fact, it might just be enough inspiration for me to go ahead and ask as well, after all. :)

I would if I were you, Gisele! In fact, last year, when I went to DLR in late September, I did not know about the pins, and the trip was supposed to be a combined celebration of my birthday (which was in July), as well as the birthdays of a couple of my friends. So by the time we went back to DLR in December, we DID know about the pins, and my friends and I wore ours proudly the whole weekend and got treats and greetings by Cast Members everywhere! This time, when I go in October, I may or may not get a pin. I sort of wanted to consider it a belated b-day celebration, so I may get a pin - or drag out my pin from last year!;)

Thank you Sherry E, :flower3:

For the vote of confidence. :)

You can ask for a new pin, so that way your first one will represent your first birthday trip to Dl. and the new pin will represent the new year. I like that idea :)

You bring up a good point about getting a different pin. I wondered if they make different pins for each year. I can't recall what was on my pin from last year. But I think I will get another one in October. I mean, I would never go nuts with it - like if I went to DLR 8 times next year, I wouldn't get a pin for myself each time! But I think once or twice in a year is just fine - no matter whan the actual birthdate is!!:dance3: Those CMs are trained to look for the buttons and some of them have eagle eyes. You could be getting on the darkest of rides - like HM or POTC - and your button could be slightly obscured by a purse or something, and those sharp Cast Members or Christmas carolers will spot it as you load onto the ride or recline in the lobby of the GCH and wish you a happy birthday! Some of them just completely ignore you, but more often than not, you get Happy Birthdays from all kinds of people. It is funny because, when passersby/guests in the parks start noticing that CMs are saying happy birthday to someone, sometimes total strangers will give you a happy birthday too! I was in DCA and had just left Wine Country Trattoria, and the waitress wished my friend and me a Happy Birthday as we left. Some nice Japanese tourists noticed this and wondered why we got such a nice send off, and they looked at my pin, and in very broken English, said, "Happy Birthday, Sherry." So wearing these buttons is very infectious. People see them and respond kindly. If for no other reason, it spreads good cheer and good vibes all around. Everybody is friendly to each other for a brief moment! And we can never have too much of that!

Ah, those are nice and cute stories, Sherry! :)

I wonder what happy birthday is in Japanese? oh how it would be nice to be multi-lingual, instead of a mono-lingual dolt, at least I do understand some of the languages that are foreign to me, however not enough so I could honestly state that I am bi-lingual, much less anything more from that! (big sigh)

Maybe I should get my son a pin. We always go VERY CLOSE to his birthday, but not on the date. Last year we were only a couple days off. I'm such a stickler, it didn't even occur to me. This year, we'll be a couple weeks off. He would love the attention. With him being a middle child, he always likes to be recognized.

I can occasionally understand a word or two in Spanish here and there, but not much. That is about it for me!

Heather,

Definitely ask for a pin for your son, that will be a very nice thing for him to have. :flower3:

Oh yes! You must get him one! They don't even bat an eyelash as to the actual date at DLR. If they did, then that would be a different story, and we would all have to be sticklers, but like your son, I imagine many kids (and big kids too!) love the attention they get - and good, friendly vibes and positive energy - from wearing these pins. So Disney is probably happy to hand them out. One of my friends is going to get a button for her 45-year old husband, just so she can see if he gets a lot of attention.

Oh, and this is to the ORMom2Four AND you, Heather, since you both have kids - if you get the birthday button at City Hall (as opposed to getting one from the hotels, which you can also do), the CM behind the desk will put your son/daughter on the phone so he/she can receive a special 'birthday call' from Goofy! That is a nice little extra perk for the kids. Of course, I also 'talked' to Goofy on the phone and was not as awestruck, but the kids will be! So make sure to get the buttons at City Hall!

No problem at all. We got Anniversary buttons when our Anniversary was about 1 1/2 weeks away. At first all the "congrats" and "how many years?" comments were neat, but gotta admit after a while we took them off. LOL

That is funny Jen! :) he he! ;)

Go for it and let your DS wear the pin during the whole trip if you like!

My DS will be wearing his for the entire 5 days of our trip in Sept. I also designed a special t-shirt on the disneyshopping.com website for him to wear on his real birthday and I ordered two custom made bibs for him to wear to his birthday breakfast with Lilo and Stitch and his birthday dinner at Storyteller's (dinner is really for his daddy, but DS is only turning 1 so he won't really know the difference!):) :) :)
