Okay so today dd and I went to the birthday party with Pat E. Cake at the plaza inn in honor of her 7th birthday.

This was the worst event we have ever paid for at any Disney property. While I am a die hard DL fan - the DLR resort could really use some advise from thier WDW counterparts on how to host an event like this.

I thought it was lame. The premise of it is that you go to celebrate your birhtday. Pat E. Cake is your host. He goes around talking to people and making jokes. He made a bunch of cakes but did not decorate them. You get to do that. Each person is given a small cake, icing, and sprinkles. First you have to decorate the cake so Pat E Cake can look at it. Then the birthday people are invited up to the front to be sung to. Then Mickey and Minnie show up and they do a March around the room followed by a very, very brief oppertunity for a photo with Mickey and Minnie. Then you have like two minutes to eat the cake before you are given the boot.

The premise of the event is cute - which is why I paid $15/person for it. The CMs who carried it out were rude. They were rushing everyone and not letting kids finish thier cake. I would be willing to pay more (I have paid the $250 at WDW for the princess tea) to have a more relaxing fun event.

So I was just wondering what other people thought of this event.

When we were there in December it was way more laid back then your experience. I am so sorry you were rushed out. My boys loved it. They were 1, 5 & 6. We were one of the last ones out. (Cleaning up our 1 year old :) We liked it for the experience to take pics with Mickey and Minnie together. We took one as a family and then one with just the boys. The boys had fun during the Birthday Party part too :)

I haven't been, but I've wanted to. The only reason I haven't is because I'm an adult and don't know how it would be for adults only. But I have heard similar things about it lately.

I have done it twice and loved it both times. I thought Pat E Cake was funny and loved decorating the cakes. I don't have any kids and thought it was fun. :dance3:

We went to this last summer and had a blast. It was my husband and myelf, his grandparents, his aunt, and his cousins (18 and 16). So all of us were more or less adults...and we all had a great time. So much so that we're doing it again this summer. It was silly and the cake was yummy!! We didn't feel rushed or anything like that either. I think we were the last ones out, chatting with some of the CMs.

Boy I am jealous - this was not the experience we had yesturday. We were only allowed to take one picture of dd with Mickey and Minnie - when we tried to take one as a family we were not allowed to. Pat E. Cake never came by our table. He interacted with the other tables. :confused3 After the pictured we were rushed out of the area by the CMs. The whole event took only about 30 minutes - from the time we walked in to walking out. There were no lingering guests.

Maybe they had awhole other b-day party going on afterwards that they had to get ready and do it all again???? ...Just a guess i have no idea, i have never done it, because I thought the group would have be atleast 10-15 kinda thing.... me and about 12 people are going but there will only be 4 kids and i don't think some of the other adults would want to do it... so i didn't want them to call and laugh at me for wanting a party for 7 :sad2: I was thinking about ordering a cake but they won't even send them into disneyland :sad1:

hm. maybe i will go?

we went last fall, too many people, terrible tasting cake, and Mickey and Minnie weren't very interactive with the kids. Out of our family of 5, only one son ate any of his cake but then again, he'll eat anything sweet! :lmao: Like another said, would not do this again.

It's not just for your group. It's like a restaurant, where all sorts of people are all enjoying it together.

editing to say...or NOT enjoying it, I guess!

So how would it be for my DS's 50th birthday party? Now, it won't be anythign but us adults there....

I think it sounds like something fun! And definitely "Disney". Does anyone know if there is a minimum number of people to have the party?

Thanks.

If I were celebrating it, I would rather do it at a character meal. It is not much more, you will get more character interaction and you can still order a cake at Goofy's kitchen with dinner?

I haven't done the party yet, but have always heard pretty negative things about it, so I haven't wanted to do it really.

I looked into this for our trip this month ~ DS's B~day is day 1 of our trip! $15 a person for cake and a foto with Mickey and Minnie ~ no thanks, character meals are less than this for kids anyways. We'll have a late breakfast with Minnie & Friends on DS's B~day.

Hey, thanks for the tip! I never thought of ordering a cake. And what could be better, birthday surprise at Goofys!

I wish I had gone to goofy's kitchen and ordered the birthday buckett and cake instead. I guess what disappoints me the most is that on other days people have had a more relaxed time.

We've done it 4 times and never had a bad experience. The last time was last March 07, though... My extended family and kids loved the cake decorating- there was always some decorating of each other too :rolleyes1 We loved the birthday hats and the kids still use those birthday cups, and talk about their day there. LOVED getting the picture with both Mickey and Minnie together, but the last time DS didn't want to do it, he was having too much fun with Grandpa and his friend he invited.

I'm sorry that wasn't your experience! It sounds like you got some sour CMs. :headache: That stinks when you are really hoping an event will be memorable and it turns out to be kind of a waste of your time.

The CMs really do have a lot of impact - I guess I got some bad ones.

We had fun at this event for my Dd birthday. We did not feel rushed at all, she had plenty of time to 'visit' with M&M. I am sorry you didn't have a good time.

I've had that same feeling about other things we have experienced at the parks. For example, I hate the way they do photos with Ariel at the princess meal. We were rushed, only allowed to take one photo with her, and then they tried to sell us the one they took. I know other people have said they werent limited to one, and had a wonderful experience, and can hardly wait to go back.

Where's the category for booked almost two months in advance, confirmed the week before our trip, had 11 people show up for my DD's 4th birthday and find they cancelled our reservation without notice?
