My daughter is turning 5 while we are in Disney next month. There will be 13 of us there, and I would like to have a little party. Just a cake, balloons, sing to her. Is there a place to do this? We are staying at POR. We will just do it in the room if need be. I read on allearsnet that Beach Club will actually do parties, including hot dogs, cake, games, etc. Couldnt' find anything about other resorts though.

I think several of the kids clubs have birthday parties, I know the Neverland Club does. With the amount of people you have in your group, you can be a "Grand Gathering". One of the special events is a fireworks voyage and they sing and make a big deal out of birthdays. Ya'll could do the Family Magic tour and then have lunch with a birthday cake in the park. The cakes cost around $40. The tour is loads of fun. We celebrated my older dd's birthday (Jan 2004) at 1900 Park Fare, they make a big deal with a crown and a special place mat signed by the characters. I also ordered the white chocolate Cinderella slipper desert for all the children. Man, are they good! We have also celebrated younger dd's birthday on an Illuminations cruise. It was great, but expensive. Be sure to get an "It's My Birthday" pin at town hall.

Have to ask a follow-up.

How many do you need to be a grand-gathering? Is this free, sounds great!!!

A Grand Gathering requires 8 (paying) Disney resort guests. It doesn't cost anything to join. They have several special activities that are offered. The events are different prices ranging from $30 to $60 per person. The events are really neat and all involve interaction with Disney characters. One advantage to booking your resort reservation as a Grand Gathering is that they are supposed to try to put your group's rooms together at the resort (this isn't guaranteed). We really enjoyed the Magical Fireworks Voyage, it is a big Wishes cruise (the boat holds 50+ people) and you meet for desert before. Capt. Hook and Mr. Smee are at the desert portion of the event. They walk you down to the marina at the CR. While on the cruise you are entetained by "Patch". He sings and plays Disney trivia games. You get a great view of Wishes and the Electric Water Parade. Allearsnet.com has more detailed info on all the events. We also did the Safari Dinner, it was a lot of fun, too. We are still deciding if we will do the Grand Gatherings on our December trip.
