Ok, this summer will be our first family vacation to WDW. While there, my DD will be celebrating her eighth birthday. I had planned on having dinner for her b-day at Coral Reef...thanks to all the great info from this site...it sounded like it would be the coolest with the specialized menus and diver. But, now I see that is no longer being done. So, now what do I do? Are there any good alternatives to make her b-day special?

They still serve a great meal, and the view can't be beat!
Have you thought about still going to Coral Reef, maybe order a custom cake for her?

I agree Coral Reef is still a great option for bday dinner even without the diver.

Is your daughter interested in characters or princesses? We're taking our girls to the Castle for a 6th bday celebration. Other options for us would be Chef Mickeys or Norway princess.

WDW is now offering various celebration packages that can be purchased at various restaurants.

I didn't really think about that. I bet the kids would still really enjoy the atmosphere. I also considered 1900 Park Fare, because I thought she'd get a quick out of the stepsisters and wicked step-mom. Oh decisions...decisions. :rotfl:

Is there somewhere this info is provided or do you have to call the restaurant to see if they offer anything special?

Copied the number from the cake thread! Good luck making a decision! I just spent 2 days racking my brain whether to take DS to Chef Mickey's or T-Rex for his 5th. (TRex won out!)

Thanks for tracking the number down for me. I was actually looking through that cake thread the other day, thinking about getting her a cake. I definitely would have picked T-Rex too. I think we are going to try it out on our first night. At least that is my plan. I figured my son would absolutely love it and there won't be any princesses in sight!

An 8th birdthday in Disney is great fun! Anywhere you go they are sure to make a big deal if you let them know. Character meals will sign cards and give you special cupcakes. We went to WCC for my (not my 8th LOL) birthday last year. They do make a big deal- have the whole restaurant sing happy birthday and bring out a piece of cake for you. My kids loved it so much that this year will be in Disney for my DH 's birthday and they insist on going to WCC for it. Anywhere you choose I am sure your DD will have a great and memorable day. ;)

I'm really hoping that spending her b-day at WDW will be an awesome experience for her. She knows that our trip is scheduled for the month of June but does not know we will be there duing her b-day. She asked last night if we could go during her birthday and I told her I don't think so... :rolleyes1 Hopefully she won't catch on!

I have WCC on our tentative ressie list...I've read a lot of good/fun things about it. I'm hoping we go and they give my hubby a difficult time...he does not have the Disney spirit.

If you want them to really get on your husband make him answer his cell phone or ask for katchup. LOL

The stepsisters at 1900 Park Fare are really a hoot, but I also think the entertainer at O'hana is wonderful!...Lots of activities for children: hula, limbo, coconut races....You will get leis as birthday people. It really depends on how shy your daughter is, whether you want character interaction or activities, buffets or individual dishes: too many variables!

You have a lot of great options!...Just make sure all your reservations say you're celebrating her birthday!

:flower3:

Great suggestion...thanks! I'm just hoping that by the time we do get to her actual birthday, she will have loosened up a bit. She's pretty shy, so I'm hoping she'll still be able to enjoy her "special b-day dinner". I can't picture her getting too involved with the characters, but I'll keep my fingers crossed!

I've heard 1900 Park Fare really makes a little girl's bday special. They have a birthday placemat, a birthday tiara and give a birthday cupcake.

I'm all for a princess meal. princess:

I'll be at CRT for my birthday dinner :yay:

Right now I'm kind of leaning towards 1900 Park Fare, especially since its not in a park and we don't have hopper passes. Figured I would let her pick which park she wants to spend the day in and just go from there. I think we will try to do breakfast at CRT one morning...don't think we could go to WDW without experiencing the castle at least once! :goodvibes
