Birthday Desserts or Birthday Cake

I originally had reservations at Yachtsman's for my daughter's birthday. I had to change my ADR dates and now we are at Kona Cafe for her birthday. When I had Yachtsmans booked, I had ordered a 6 inch chocolate cake. When I called to change it to Kona's I was told that I had to cancel that cake and call back and order one for Kona. Sure no problem, I cancelled it and now Kona is saying that I can not get a 6 inch chocolate cake. They will allow me to get a 6 inch vanilla or an 8 inch chocolate. The problem there is only three of us, there is no way we can eat that much cake and it is our last night in WDW. We are also on the dining plan and I know that we get a dessert with the dining plan. Will the restaurant make the dessert "special" since it is her birthday or should I pay the $32 plus tax for an 8 inch chocolate cake that we will bearly touch half of. Does anyone have any photos of special birthday desserts?

Thanks,
Judy

I would hold out for a special birthday dessert. While never ever guaranteed - our experience in one anniversary and two birthdays at Disney, we've never missed on getting a special dessert that we didn't even ask for.

(One was an anniversary dessert for breakfast at Kona :teeth: )

I don't know about Kona, but we have gotten birthday cupcakes before. I am sure each restaurant has something they might do "special". I got a cupcake, a placemat and a plastic crown for my birthday at 1900 parkfare...for my 32nd birthday in 2006. The cupcake was HUGE.

I would not pay that much for a cake for 3 of you...I would rather have something to remember the trip by for $32 than a cake.

skip the birthday cake. On the DDP, you'll get the free desserts that come with the meal anyway, even if you order a birthday cake..then what'll you do...too much cake to eat for 3 & you have to eat a dessert too?

If told in advance, and remind the waitress discreetly, they'll usually do something special with the dessert for the Birthday-person. Some of the restaurants use the decorative dessert sauce or chocolate sauce to write "happy birthday" on whatever dessert you order. But even if they don't do anything extra, she'll have the fun of picking out her own dessert...and Kona has some really yummy choices.

Thanks! Thats what I was kind of thinking too. That is alot of cake for just three of us, especially at $32. I thought I was being too frugal thinking about the money vs her birthday. She will probably enjoy a special dessert more, hopefully she will get one.
