My DD will be celebrating her 8th birthday while cruising on the Disney Dream. I know there are decorating packages available for purchase, but I wanted to do some décor on my own. What is acceptable to use in the room? I would image no tape, but are there any surfaces inside the room where magnets would work? Does anyone have any pics they could share of decorating you have done in your room?

Thank you!

You are correct - no tape (or any adhesives of any type) allowed. In my experience, the walls/doors are metal, so magnets would work. I believe you can also use them on the ceiling panel support (as they're also metal).

You can hang things as long as they do not stick or damage.

We celebrated our daughter's 13th a couple of weeks ago on the Fantasy. We brought a banner with us and asked our stateroom host if he could hang it while we were out on an excursion, so that when we returned, it would be there to greet our daughter (along with a cake we had pre-ordered and arranged to have delivered to the room while we were on the excursion). He was fine with helping, and when we got back to the room, he had taped it up across the center of the room (where the curtain could be pulled across, which gave him more surfaces for taping). Thus, while you might not want to attempt any tape-jobs yourself (at risk of using something "illegal"), our stateroom host was very happy to help (and obviously knows what is acceptable to use....he just used what appeared to be normal, clear Scotch tape). Much to our surprise, he also made a pretty big birthday cake out of rolled up towels, including a towel candle and lots of little stickers all over it to make it appear decorated. That earned him some additional gratuity, for sure!

My daughter turns 15 this year on the first day of our cruise. I'm trying to figure out how to keep her out of the room long enough to decorate before she sees it. I thought about the package and may do that, but I think I could do it cheaper and better. LOL Cant' wait to read other reports and see pictures.

Perhaps you could have her remain by the pool while you "check to see if your cabin is ready". Then, you can decorate the room real fast and go back to get her?

I think we'll do something like that, but I'll have to come up with something besides the pool (possibly) as it's an Alaska cruise. I am kind of hoping she will just get involved with the teen club for a little and not watch the time.

We did do the package. It was cute and all set up when we walked in the day. She got a card signed by Minnie and Daisy. (super excited 5 year old). We also made a brought a Minnie Mouse birthday hat porthole. She got a special dessert at dinner and they did a towel cake and lots of fun towel animals.

We brought our own streamers, tape, confetti etc and the stateroom host made a towel cake for my DD's 6th birthday. We did of course give him an extra tip.

make a stop at guest services for a birthday button. she will get lots of 'happy birthday's when she wears it from both staff and guests.

I put up a birthday banner for my seven year old with fun tack and I also found some birthday window clings for the patio door. I also made a magnet to put on our door. It was simple but the kids loved it!

Awww, super cute! "Thank you Mom and Dad. This is so awesome!" Priceless! Great idea...recording her reaction. I'm going to make sure I record DS's reaction to his birthday surprise when we cruise soon. :)

Thank you for sharing this video.

Thanks:) I Forgot about the birthday button. Every she went on the ship they did say "Happy Birthday Princess!" and she did get a gift from her club too, a hat and a pillowcase.

We are celebrating my son's HS graduation and I plan to bring decorations from home. Made a lot of magnets for the outside of our door, but also have some other inside ones. Thanks for the info. Would love to see more pictures of decorated cabins.

The video is so cute. I plan to do magnets for outside the door as well. I love that cake - cute!!!

So we can use FunTack type stuff? It's my son's second birthday the second day. I'm not sure what to do, but I want to make it really special.

Since it describes itself as "a removable, long lasting, no mess, stain resistant and non-toxic blue adhesive for hanging posters, photos and drawings" I'd say no. DCL requests no adhesives for decorating. They prefer magnets, if you're going to decorate.

Window clings would work, though, right? I wanted something in our room, but $40 for Disney decorations seems astronimical.

I wouldn't place them on anything but glass. I've seen them put elsewhere. A pain. lol They'd also have to be high enough that my then two year old doesn't take them off and move them.
