Birthday Celebrations

We're surprising our girls (3 and 6, will be 4 and 6 at the time of trip) with a trip to DL for their birthdays (2 months apart, so will be going right in between, in October). Are there any places that I can set up something extra/special for them? I thought I read a few years ago that there's something you can do for character dining? Aside from the character dining, is there anything else I should check out for birthdays? Thanks!!

We typically go to DL around the end of June, which is my daughter's birthday time. She has celebrated her birthday almost as many times at Disneyland as she has at home!

For two girls I'd consider doing the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique...we did that for my daughter's 9th birthday and it was fabulous. She got a birthday princess sash and everyone commented all day long. More noticeable than a birthday button!

There is (I think it's still going anyway) a birthday celebration at the Plaza Inn mid-day that you can sign up for where you decorate a cookie? cake? and I believe a character or two are involved. We've never done it, I have heard mixed things about it. Someone else might be able to tell you more about this.

That is a good idea, since there are two kids with birthdays.

My son did the Mickey and Minnie birthday party thing. It's pretty cute. It takes place at the same place where they have Minnie's character breakfast (I am brain farting on the name right now).
THere is baker called Pat E. Cake that gives everyone a personal sized cake with some decroations for it and you have a cake decroating contest (this is open only for the people who paid for it but it wasn't really crowded when we did it, only about 10 families, but it isn't open to the masses and the public and YOU NEED TO MAKE A RESERVATION IN ADVANCE!!! A lot of people saw what was going on and tried to sign up right then and there and despite there being plenty of room they were denied.)

Anyways, so after the everybody wins in the cake decorating contest there are some song a dance time and out comes Mickey and Minnie Mouse!!! They dance a few songs with the kids and everyone lines up for pictures.

So it isn't too bad and if anything it is something different that you get to do that you didn't do before. I recommend it.

That's fantastic, thank you for the info! I thought I read somewhere a while back (2-ish years) that there was some sort of package we could do at Goofy's Kitchen? I can't find anything like that anymore. If I can't find the info here, then I guess I can phone and ask? Either way though, I know our girls would LOVE doing cakes! Do you know if we'd have to do 4, or if my hubby and I could just help our girls with theirs?

That's a good question. I'd like to know the answer too. Also, would you say it's geared more to younger kids?

You would have to pay for four people but I'm sure if your husband wanted to decline a cake they wouldn't force it on him, but he would still have to pay.

Yes it is geared more towards younger kids, BUT aren't we all little kids at heart in DLR?

I'm pretty sure they still do this...

You (or the girls) can write to their favorite characters and send it in the mail to

Walt Disney Company
Attn: Fan Mail Department
500 South Buena Vista Street
Burbank, CA 91521

They used to reply back with a picture with their signature, but now I think they only send a postcard with their signature. If you say that you're going to disneyland and it's your birthday, the character may write back saying something like, "Have a happy birthday, Can't wait to see you here!"

Not technically inside the park, but I just thought you might want to know ^_^
