Any ideas for a birthday celebration at the 50's prime time cafe? What to expect, it is my wife's birthday and that just happens to be were we are eating.

Last Feb I was there with a friend & it was his birthday, so I took him there. I think it all depends on the waiter. I was very disappointed. Our waiter was a dud. He came over, had my friend stand & then sang. It was not any different than at some of the other restaurants we went to.

But I think it's all about the waiter. Plus we were a group of 20-somethings & I've noticed a lot of the cast members don't know how to interact with us, 'cause other people our age may not react the nicest, 'cause they're "too cool" for WDW, but not us! :lmao:

If you are wanting to make sure that there is something particularly special for your wife's birthday meal pre-arrange something, like a cake, through Disney Dining. We were there for my birthday this past month and the gentleman that walked us to our table saw it on the reservation slip and said "Happy Birthday" - he was very sweet. Our server said nothing. I wasn't expecting any who-ha but since it was noted just saying "Happy Birthday" would have been a nice touch.

We had a huge surprise sprinkled in Pixie Dust.

We went on 10/2, one day before my son's second birthday. Nothing noted on the ADR because it wasn't his birthday on 10/2.

When ordering our server, Cousin Mikey, asked how old our sons were. Our oldest chimed in that he was 4 and our youngest said "2 - no I 2 'morrow."

While we were there Cousin Mikey came out with a card and a cupcake for another man who was there who had a birthday that day. He held up the card and announced that he knew that the rest of the family was too cheap to buy a card so he got one and asked if we all would sign it. He passed it out and EVERYONE in our section signed a birthday card for this stranger. It was hilarious. We then all sang Happy Birthday as Mikey presented him with his birthday cupcake.

Imagine our shock when Mikey brought out a card and cupcake for our little sweetie. He even made note that it wasn't his birthday until the next day, but he knew that we were too cheap to do anything. He then passed around a card for our son while giving him a cupcake and everyone sang for him.

Truly a magical Disney moment.

What makes magic magical is the surprise of it all. I agree with PP's, if you want something to count on - order it through the cake hotline. If you are willing to chance it, it sounds like it can range from nothing to really fun and funny!!
