Does anyone know if they can make an ice cream cake instead of the regular cakes for birthday celebrations? We are traveling with freinds and their daughter will be turning 3 a couple of weeks before we go. We were hoping to have a little celebration at Magic Kingdom for her but she is allergic to peanuts and eggs which rules out most cakes.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

I've heard nothing but great things about Disney and allergies! I would call ahead to wherever you're having the party and ask about an eggless cake. I've made plenty in my day since all 3 of mine have had dairy, soy, and egg issues. An icecream cake would be fun too though, as long as they use eggless icecream, which I think most store bought kind is.

I can't comment on WDW cakes specifically, as we've not been there ... yet, but I also have a DD with egg and peanut allergies.

Ice cream cakes won't necessarily be safe as many ice creams also contain eggs. (We just got back from Disneyland and my DD could not have any ice cream, as they were all made with egg.) Many ice creams are also processed in ways where cross contamination with peanuts is a big risk. Also, don't most ice cream cakes contain regular cake as well?

At home,I make my own cakes for my DD from scratch using eggless cake recipes I've found online. So eggless cake recipes do exist. I'm just not sure if WDW chefs are familiar with them.

I've heard WDW is fabulous for people with food allergies. My suggestion is to call the restaurants in question and talk to a lead and/or chef before you go. Those people can guide you in the right direction for safe foods.

I also suggest you post on the disABILITIES board, as I've seen many posts about food allergies there, along with phone numbers for people in charge of food issues in WDW.

Good luck. I'd be interested in hearing your outcome, as we will be going to WDW in Feb '08!

WDW can make an egg free cake, we have them make, gluten, wheat, egg, milk, butter, peanut and banana free cakes. All of them have been wonderful, but the best ones have come from the GF bakery, Just let them know in advance what kind of cake you would like, they can make anything, as long as you have the money!!!! The cheapest one we have had was $50 and the dearest $6,000.

You had a $6000 cake?! That must have been some party! I will have my friend call Cinderella's castle directly and see what they can do. Other than a slight dairy intelorance, I am very lucky in that my kids are basically allergy free. My hat goes off to you moms who deal with this on a daily basis! I will keep you posted on how it goes!
