Are the cakes always broughht out by one or more characters, and presented in a sort of "ta-dah!" way, if you know what I mean?! I wondered if that's something you have to specifically request or do they always do that? I wanted it to be a surprise and a fun thing for my daughter, not suddenly plonked on the table with the rest of the meal... :)

Many thanks!

When my sister had her cake at Chef Mickey the waiter brought it over with music playing and then all the characters came over a happy birthday song played they danced around for a bit she blew out her candles and had some photos taken.

It was really good I really recommend it we had such a good night and the food was brilliant!

Hi,
when we had my dd's birthday cake in cafe Mickey in Novemeber it went pretty much like how tinks_1989 said. There was a load happy birthday song playing loads of staff and characters came around us they were all clapping and singing happy birthday to her and the customers joined in too. it was lovely. dd could not manage to blow out all her candles she was too excited so Mickey tried to help:rotfl:

i have put a few pics below for you of her birthday a cafe Mickey

This really made her birthday special she keeps asking when we go on our trip in july will she have a birthday party with Mickey...... i thinks she thinks everytime we go it's her birthday (her birthday is not until novemeber:rotfl2:)

yep, the cake is never just plonked on the table at Cafe Mickey in my experience - even if there are half a dozen birthdays being celebrated in the restaurant that evening, the music changes, the waiter brings the cake, and is accompanied by some or all of the characters who are in the room at the time :goodvibes.

We had one in August. The music came on and the waiter came with the cake. As soon as the characters hear the music they follow the cake.

You'll get whichever characters are out on the floor at the time. There's normally 2 on each floor at any given time.

We had to wait ages for the cake. It must have taken 20 minutes after we finished our meal. When we were waiting we saw other people get their cakes and the characters at the time were Stitch and Captain Hook. So other kids got them. About 2 minutes before our cake came they changed to Mickey and Mr Smee. I was chuffed because I really wanted it to be Mickey! I kept staring at the lift to see what characters were coming next and was praying it was Mickey.

Best 20E I ever spent! It made the trip unforgettable.

Where do you request this?

you can either add the price of the cake to your Disney booking and pay in advance, or you can order it when you arrive at the resort. You then make a table reservation at the restaurant of your choice, and they make a note that you have ordered a birthday cake. Then you just tell your waiter when you are being seated that you have ordered a birthday cake.

You can make table reservations either before you go by phoning the Dining reservations line on 0033 160304050, or you can reserve your table with your hotel receptionist or at City Hall in the main park when you arrive.

We booked ours at City Hall when we booked the meal. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that cakes should be booked 24hrs in advance.

Thanks everybody! I ordered mine via the dining reservations phone line, by the way.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I have a couple of questions.

We are going to DLP on July 17th, it is my sons birthday the next day and we are going to Cafe Mickey for his bday and want to order a cake, but I am not sure what to do. I have paid for the holiday in full so cannot add it to the price of the holiday as suggested in this thread, also as it is recommended to book it at least 24 hours in advance I don't want to risk trying to book it at City Hall when we arrive as it will be less than 24 hours and I will be devastated if he misses out.

I am going to ring and book the table in advance (how early can you do this?), and can I book and pay for the cake over the phone whilst booking the table?

TIA! :)

When you phone to reserve the table just tell them you want a birthday cake. You don't have to pay for it when you book it. When you arrive at the restaurant, make sure it's part of the reservation.

I was just wondering, I'm sure I've read on here somewhere one of the cakes they sometimes give you, you cant take home. Which was it is, the chocolate or the sponge?
:cake: Also, I think cakes seem abit expensive for just 2 people (were going in June next year) so I was wondering, has anyone asked or requested when they order deserts, could they bring it out with a candle or sparkler in or would they not do this?

They wouldn't let me take the chocolate cake away from the Lucky Nugget, but on my insistance found a sponge instead.
Previously I'd taken a chocolate cake away from Cafe Mickey and that was at the waiter's suggestion. :confused3

Our waiter offered to box up our chocolate fondant birthday cake at Cafe Mickey earlier this year, as there was no way we had room left to eat it in the restaurant :goodvibes.

up to 60 days before your trip begins - so you can book it now :).

We had a birthday cake at Cafe Mickey after a very filling dinner. We asked for a box to put it in and they gladly gave us one. Whilst we were trying to pay and sort the kids out Eyeore kept trying to steal the box with the cake in it!!!:laughing:

I then took it back to the hotel roon and cut it up into 8 pieces and we took it to the park the following day and we ate it whilst waiting for Autopia to open!

we had the chocolate mousse like cake at inventions for my sons birthday last year, we were told not to take it back as it wouldnt keep as it was made with cream

I asked for a cake when I booked our table and it was all noted on the booking when we arrived. They took the names of the people whose birthday it was too and they were obviously noted on all the other restaurant reservations too because they were wished happy birthday at our meal the next day.:goodvibes
