Birthday cake questions

Never done this before but it will be DS's birthday when we are at Disneyland next week and I thought it might be fun. DS has chosen the Restaurant des Stars to eat in on his birthday which I suppose means it will have to be lunch. He doesn't actually eat cake but I think he will love the pantomime of the cast coming out singing and bringing it to the table. So my questions are:

How much does the cake cost and is there a shareholders/AP discount?

How far in advance do you have to reserve it?

I think I have read that taking uneaten cake out of the restaurant is not allowed, is there anyway round this? DH and I will not be able to eat a whole cake between us, especially after a meal!

Bearing that in mind, is there anywhere where you can JUST have the cake experience without having a meal first?

Anything else I should consider?

I think it's 22 euros if you book beforehand, 24 euros if you book when you get there.

How far in advance do you have to reserve it?

Not sure, we've already booked one, I would guess at 24 hours.

Last I heard, people were allowed to take it home with them, I certainly will be, we've paid enough for it! Will take my tupperware if it comes to it lol!

Can't help with that one, I would guess it is part of the dining experience and food hygiene etc.

Anything else I should consider?

I didn't think that Restaurant des Stars had characters (aside from Chef and Emille), so if he wants lots of fuss, you might be better at Cafe Mickey or another "character" restaurant.

Cost is 25€ and yes you get your sh/ap discount as it's classed as part of the meal

Pass - I "think" you can order it when you arrive as they seem to have them lying about in reserve. They are not made to order iyswim

Some people get to take them away no bother and it's true that others have been refused. I've seen people offering slices to other tables which is a nice gesture if you wouldn't be wanting it for b/fast-lunch-dinner for the next couple of days

No as they are only served in the restaurants

How far in advance do you have to reserve it? 24 hours

Has anyone seen the birthday cake coming out to the table at Restaurant des Stars? I haven't, just wondered if anyone had, and could share what kind of celebration they put on ie do they use the birthday song like in Cafe Mickey? Does little Remy and his chef come out to present the cake, like the characters do in Cafe Mickey?

You definitely can take the whole cake (in its box, with the candles ) away with you from Cafe Mickey, but I don't know about Restaurant des Stars.

And Carrie that's a great idea to offer slices to neighbouring tables.

From Carrie's menu pictures I assume the same cake is offered at all restaurants and therefore Tinks idea of having it at Cafe Mickey might be a good idea, €25 on a cake we're all too full to try seems a waste. We've never actually eaten at CM because the food is not to our taste but sharing a pizza and then having a bit of cake could be the best plan. DS will love the characters and we can still do RDS for lunch. Sorted!

Just a thought... is the cake nice?

Just a thought... is the cake nice?

If you like chocolate cake it is the best

when we went for DD birthday in March we shared a garlic bread for start, shared a pizza and then had cake meant we were in there for a long time at a fraction of the price if we had both had the set menu.

Garlic bread 6,10
Pizza 15,20
Cake 25,00

minus 15% discount

just under 40 Euros for us set menu is 34,50 each with out discount

It's a standard French supermarket type cake - you can buy them at Auchan but them seem to go down well and it's more the event than the cake

I can absolutely confirm (having eaten it at least 3 times ) that the chocolate birthday cake from Cafe Mickey is very nice indeed .

Word of warning - might be best to check what sort of cake it is before hand. When we went a couple of years ago we were celebrating 2 birthdays and so had two cakes, one in Cafe Mickey and one in the Blue Lagoon. Cafe Mickey was fine with us taking it out but the Blue Lagoon wouldn't let us as it had cream in it and they said we wouldn't be able to store it properly at the hotel Might have been nice if they'd told us this before we'd ordered the 3 course set menu.

Oh yuk, I loathe cream... I was looking forward to it from what others were saying but it looks like it will just be DH eating cake then! DS will just smile at it but I can pretty much guarantee he won't touch it. Now DH can do a pretty good impression of someone who can eat a whole cake on his own but even he does have limits so it looks like there will be some lucky people on neighbouring tables if we can't take it away. As Carrie said, it is the event that is important really.

Does Cafe Mickey get very booked up in advance? We don't usually book restaurants until we arrive and often wait until the day but I don't want to miss out on this birthday treat on a specific date so should I book now?

There's no school holidays or anything so it's pretty quiet over there atm.

Weekends are rammed though as everybody is using up their 2nd entry ticket from the 2 for 1 deal

I would phone to book Cafe Mickey - just so you know you have got the date and time you want. Its not unusual for you to have to wait even with a reservation at the entrance of Cafe Mickey, and for people with no reservations to be turned away/told there are no tables until 10pm.

The Cafe Mickey birthday cake is chocolate fondant, its not cream.

We went last year mid week no school holidays they still turned people away.

If I were you I would book it and if you don't want to go then don't you have the option.

Thanks Carrie and Elaine, I will try and book now then as DS's birthday is a Saturday - would be! I am a bit worried about the "might have to queue anyway" bit as DS is not good at either waiting or standing too long - he has a disabled pass but I don't suppose that will make any difference there. We can be flexible as to time though so I will ask when is best.

Thanks Carrie, so Saturday night is the worst possible choice then?! Definitely want to eat before 21.00 but don't mind if we miss Dreams for once (as long as we don't get bad weather on other evenings). On the other hand we don't want to eat too early if we have already filled up at RDS in the afternoon.

Oh yeah I agree no need to book too far in advance not like our WDW planning all booked 6 months head of the trip. :s
