Birthday cake for DS

I would like to order a birthday cake for DS (turning 4) on our upcoming trip. I haven't done it before. I read through the birthday cake thread but there are more older posts than recent ones. I did read some comments about the cakes being delivered to the wrong place or even lost entirely.

I also read about some cakes not tasting very good.

For those who have experience in ordering birthday cakes, please help me figure out whether it would be better to have it delivered to our room at the GCH or at a restaurant. We have ADRs at the following:

Carthay Circle
Ariel's Grotto
Big Thunder BBQ
Storyteller's Cafe

Also, which cake, filling, frosting combinations have been a hit?

I would probably have it delivered to your room. Kids usually get pretty excited about room service so your little guy might think it was extra special to have a cake delivered to the room. Also, if there are any leftovers, you won't have to carry it around with you or make a special trip back to the room to drop it off.

We have done Ariels Grotto before and have one booked for Ariels again this trip (I may do one to Goofys too).

We did Red Velvet with cream cheese last time, it was okay would equate it to a good supermarket bakery cake. We had no problem receiving it.

Come next week I'll have experience - I just ordered a cake for my birthday lunch @ storyteller's next week. You need to order 5 days in advance (at least for mine which is gluten free). I have a PDF of the cake options I got from Disney but don't see a way to upload it here -anyone know how? They have 2 cakes which come in a small (6", serves 6) size - a princess cake and a regular cake w/ a disney character decoration on top.

I don't care if it doesn't taste amazing - just the thought of getting a gluten free cake I did not have to bake myself brings tears to my eyes.
