I am surprising my DD with a DLR trip for her birthday. We are arriving the day before and leaving the day after her birthday (3 days total). We plan on picking up a Birthday Button from Guest Relations. Would you do it on the actual day and only wear it that day or would you pick it up on the first day and wear it all 3 days?

My DD will be happy with which ever is the most appropriate.

TIA

You'll get a wide variety of answers/opinions on this topic. Personally, I would wear it all three days!

I would let your DD choose. Realistically there is no special privilege for having a birthday button, except CM's and people in general telling your DD Happy Birthday . If she wants to wear it all 3 days I say let her ::yes::

Have a magical time!

Thanks for your answers. I should have explained that my DD is neurologically compromised. She has been thinking about her birthday for 6 months now :rotfl: so it is obviously a big deal for her. I am sure if I let her decide that she will want to wear it all 3 days. She will love having everyone tell her "Happy Birthday". I just want to make sure that it is appropriate. From your responses, I guess it is anything goes. Thanks!

Anything goes but when I told my son he could get a birthday button when it was close to but not his actual birth day, he told me that he could not because it was NOT his birthday! :confused3

I don't know when you're planning on going to Guest Services, but first thing in the morning there tends to be a line out of City Hall (at least at DL). If you walk past the line and go to the steps of City Hall, there is often a CM standing in front of City Hall with a container of buttons. If the CM is there, they'll give you the button and then you won't have to stand in the long line. Alternatively, the CMs at the cash registers often have a drawer with some buttons. The button is the same whether you get it in DCA, DL or anywhere, so as long as you find a CM with one, you're good to go!

That could happen also. She is excited about her birthday but, she is also a rule follower. Our family birthday celebration is a few days before the actual day and she is still wondering what she is going to do on the actual day. I have told her that I have to work, but, we will make it fun. ;)

Earlier this month, I wore my birthday button four days after my actual birthday because that's as soon as we could get to DL. I think it's totally kosher to wear them near your birthday if not actually on it. :)

My theory is: If you're in DLR to celebrate your birthday, you can totally wear the button. Regardless of what date your birthday is on. After all, the button doesn't say, "TODAY'S My Birthday!" It just says, "Happy Birthday".

My ds was weird about it this year, too! Last year we went Aug 27-29 for ds's 3rd birthday and got AP's for the first time. His actual b-day is Sept 6. We went this week to renew our passes and celebrate his birthday with friends who will not be around for his actual party. He was so uncomfortable whenever anyone wished him a happy birthday. I actually felt bad for giving him the button! He kept trying to explain how he was just celebrating now, but it wasn't really his birthday.

OP- you let your girl celebrate however she wants! The attention can be lots of fun!

Let her decide! No point in having 'discussions' (translation: fights) over something like that! I loved wearing my birthday button--a dozen different CMs wished me a happy birthday, and I got a free dessert at lunch! Is this a special birthday--like is this her first double digit birthday, or is she officially a teenager?
