Birthday button etiquette

We will be celebrating our DD's 7th Birthday on our trip. Her Birthday is Nov. 13th but we won't be at WDW until Dec. 1st - she will wear that button EVERYDAY!!!! and she will be loving every minute of it!!!!

I don't want to seem rude at all - but - If the Birthday button was made to wear for a week or more, shouldn't it read "Happy BirthWEEK"?

Obviously, I disagree with most previous posters' opinions. A Birthday is just that - a DAY. It is not a WEEK. Why should anyone celebrate a birthWEEK?

I'm sorry to be negative at all. Tell your child Happy Birthday from me. I hope you have a wonderful time! What a great place to be in for a celebration! :goodvibes

Well some people actually go to celebrate their birthdays and some people might not be able to go on their ACTUAL birthday, but if they where it all week, why should that matter? It's a celebration. Just like if you were at home, you might not have your birthday party on your actual birthday because it's a weekday. Most people just say Happy Birthday and go on with their day and it makes you smile and feel the magic. If asked when wearing a birthday button if it's your actual birthday and it isn't most people will say, well it was yesterday or it's tomorrow.

Also, just wanted to add, your daughter should wear it all week!!! :thumbsup2 My best friend and I are seasonal passholders and during the time of her birthday our passes are blacked out, so when we go for our 4 day trip to celebrate my birthday I alway make sure to get her a birthday button too so she doesn't miss out on the magic. :woohoo: Most people think we are twins since we look alike. We sort of giggle at that because we never saw it until after we were asked so many times. :rotfl2: But why not have fun with it?! :confused3 Birthdays only come once a year!!! Happy birthday to your daughter and have an amazing trip!!!

ooh i just see some1 elses post i will be going 4 days after my sons 4th birthday :)

im staying in a villa so will we stil be able to get a button? what other ones are there and how do you get them?

hmm im new to this how do you get these buttons? lol

I would just call reservations and tell the CM that you are celebrating and would like birthday buttons when you check in. When I made my ressies my CM asked if I was celebrating anything, and when we checked in we had birthday buttons.

I see no problem with wearing it for the entire celebration:thumbsup2.

Only once did I ever encounter any negativity - we went in between DD's bday and my bday so we both got pins. At one point it was bothering her on her shirt so I put both birthday pins on the strap of my camera bag. Another guest came up to me and in kind of a snarky tone said, "oh wow, you have the SAME birthday!" And I said no we were just both celebrating this trip and she rolled her eyes at me. Geesh, what was it to her :confused3. I tend to be a bit sensitive so it really rattled me for a part of the afternoon:guilty:. But I think that was a total unsual incident and for whatever reason she was just a sourpuss and felt compelled to "call me out".

Speaking as a CM, I'm all about the birthday buttons! As long as you're there celebrating your birthday, regardless of the actual day, you should wear a button. My logic is, well, we start celebrating Halloween in the middle of September, and we celebrate Christmas for practically a full two months - so we CERTAINLY should be celebrating your birthday!

We originally booked our trip for August for my daughters bdays, the trip had to be postponed for medical reasons and reschedualed to NOV.I called to make a dining ressie and they asked if we were celebrating anything special, I explained our situation and asked if I could still say it was to celebrate their bdays and was told Absolutely! And make sure to get bday buttons for the trip when we checked in as well as info on getting special cakes etc and she added it to our adr.And as for celebrating bdays for a week we do do that actually,we will do a bday party with just family on their actual bday and then with their friends on a convienient weekend and then sometimes school will be a different day because they are summer bdays, it really has no negative inpact on anyone elses trip so dont know why anyone would get their panties in a bunch over that...seems like a weird thing to get fussy over, you're in WDW lighten up

I say wear it the whole trip! If it's a birthday trip than celebrate it the whole time and feel extra special the whole time :):thumbsup2

I agree! Wear it the whole week! Maybe some people get jealous because they didn't think to do that? :confused3

we were just at WDW in September. We were celebrating our Anniversary & wore the button all week.

As long as a particular trip is really about celebrating that particular birthday (regardless of the actual day) - wear it the whole trip! And don't feel guilty about it.

Now - if the trip really has nothing to do with a birthday celebration and you just want the button for special attention - I hope you feel guilty lying about it! :rotfl:

We're going next June and taking our daughter and her family, including 2 grandkids. Our granddaughter will be 9 just one week after we return, and just the other day said she wished she could be there on her birthday. So, now I'm thinking maybe she could get a birthday button? And how do we do that? We're DVC members and staying at Bay Lake. Oh - and I'll be 60 just 2 weeks before going - maybe I'll get one too!! :)

For buttons in MK once you get through the main enterance go to your left and there is a CM with buttons in a cart (or atleast that's where they were a few years ago)

I think it is up to you personally, no harm in wearing it all week. Have fun and celebrate!

I went on my actual birthday and opted to just wear it that day but I don't like it in pictures. DS will be there for his 9th bday this year and I am sure I'll do the same with him. But that is just because I don't want it in pictures.

This will be the first year that we are actually in Disney for my birthday on Dec . 4 (we check in on the 3rd). I will get a button and im so excited. We will also be celebrating our 1 year anniversary a bit early and will get buttons for that (we were married Jan. 4). I am so excited.!!! We leave here for our drive down in 18 days!!!!:love::santa::cloud9::goodvibes:cool1:

Love this!

This will be our first trip celebrating a birthday and I think I will just wear it the one day but my dd (who will be 14) may as well have fun and wear it longer :)

We are going for our boys' birthdays, but we are also celebrating our 10th anniversary, even though it was this past Thursday(11-10) and Christmas. When I made the reservations they of course asked if we would be celebrating anything and I told them about those things and they said to make sure to wear our buttons all week, I am not sure if the kids will wear them the whole time, all of them will probably end up on the stroller or back pack!! But their actual birthdays are on our first park day, so they may wear them all that day!!
