We will be celebrating our daughter's 18th birthday in WDW. Of course she'll get her birthday pin on her birthday, our 2nd full day there. She is a stickler for following rules and thinks she should only wear it on that day. I'm thinking it would be okay to wear it for the remainder of our days there because the whole trip is a celebration of her birthday. So, what is proper etiquette regarding the buttons?

I see nothing wrong with wearing it the rest of your trip. I bet plenty of people do it and since the trip is celebrating her birthday, I say go for it.

We went for 16 days ladt year, and DN was celebrating his birthday on day 14. He was given his button when we checked in on day 1 and they told him to make sure to wear it every day. When people commented he did make sure to tell them it was on Aug 14, but it didn't matter to CMs. He was really shy at the beginning, but by the time we were done he was rocking with the attention!

Our trip this week (3 days!!!) is to celebrate DWs 40th and it is on day 1 ;) she can't wait.

Both of my girls celebrated their fifth birthdays with trips to WDW. Neither was able to be there on the actual day...with DD #1 we arrived three days later, with DD #2 we actually had to take the trip four months beforehand due to our schedules.

So obviously the wore their buttons on days that were not their birthday. And they both wore theirs for the length of their trip. No one at Disney cared...in fact, with DD #2 they encouraged me to get her a button when they heard us mention that the trip was her gift from me (they knew her birthdate from our reservation information so they were aware that she wasn't actually celebrating during the visit).

DD's birthday lasted 6 days. We all wore celebration buttons and she had her birthday button pinned to her stroller the entire trip. General thinking is that whatever you're celebrating, you can celebrate for your entire stay.

I got my b-day button a day early and asked the CM at guest services if that was o.k. He just wished me a happy un-birthday. :thumbsup2

Thanks for all of the opinions. DD feels much better about wearing the button throughout the entire vacation! :thumbsup2

The buttons are just there to add a bit of fun to your vacation- there really are no rules and nobody to check your ID to see if you're lying about your exact date of birth. ;)

My DH and I wore our Anniversary pins for the entire week of our 25th anniversary trip. We received several free cupcakes for dessert (after the first few you really can't eat them any more, but hey) and a whole lot of nice folks - from CM's to other visitors, including kids - wishing us a happy anniversary, asking us questions and generally being very nice.

So if she wants to wear her button until her NEXT birthday, I wouldn't have a problem with that!

a week before our daughter's birthday. The CM asked if we were celebrating anything and I mentioned the nearest thing was her birthday. They noted it on our reservations. At CM , they insisted on giving her a button even though it wasn't her birthday.

My last trip I got a birthday button. It was fun to count the "Happy Birthdays" I got each day. I wore it the whole time I was there, no problem!

We were given the Birthday button at check in, and was told to wear it for the entire stay. It was great !!

We are taking MIL in May for Mother's Day/her birthday. Her birthday technically isn't until the end of May, but we are there the week of Mother's Day to celebrate it all. This will be her first time visiting WDW and I fully intend on her wearing the "Celebrating (Mother's Day)," "Birthday," and "First Visit" buttons all week!:rotfl: This will most likely be the only time she ever visits WDW, has never been on a real vacation and we are going to live it up!:love:

We've been in WDW several times on DD17's actual b-day (teen years). She would never wear the button except on the ACTUAL day of her birthday.

Once, while having dinner at 1900 PF on her ACTUAL BDAY, one of Cinderella's step-sisters, upon hearing this, went back to the kitchen & returned to our table with two bday cupcakes & announced to the entire dining room that DD "gets TWO cupcakes because it's her real birthday and she doesn't lie like everyone else". :rotfl:

I was shocked for a moment, but then laughed because to see one of the step-sisters do this was hysterical.

She should wear it the WHOLE trip! We celebrated DD12 birthday there this year, and she wore it the whole time. She got special attention our entire trip. Why not extend the birthday for a while! ;) You only turn 18 once. :thumbsup2

When my step-daughter came for her birthday, the gal at the hotel check-in TOLD her to wear the button all week. She did and had a great time.

My DH wore his birthday button most of the week of vacation this past October. Plus the CM gave everyone in our group the "I'm celebrating" pins to go with his so he felt better that we could all wear them together.

Also, we went a few times in Feb. over the years because our anniversary is in December, and my parents is in March and we all wore our pins the entire week. It's the cutest when kids come up to wish you a "Happy Anniversary" on the bus or in line. :flower3:

We're going to celebrate my son's 4th birthday - BUT we aren't going to arrive until a few days after his birthday. I didn't know they had birthday buttons - and I've been on MY birthday before!! Sounds like fun!

I don't want to seem rude at all - but - If the Birthday button was made to wear for a week or more, shouldn't it read "Happy BirthWEEK"?

Obviously, I disagree with most previous posters' opinions. A Birthday is just that - a DAY. It is not a WEEK. Why should anyone celebrate a birthWEEK?

I'm sorry to be negative at all. Tell your child Happy Birthday from me. I hope you have a wonderful time! What a great place to be in for a celebration! :goodvibes

When you book the trip through Disney, they always ask if you are celebrating anything special so she should wear it the whole time - the trip is the celebration! It's so fun to have cast members and guests wish you a Happy Birthday. Plus, when you do a table service meal, you always get a special treat and a song! Tell her to enjoy it for many days - you only turn 18 once!

If you are staying at one of the Disney resorts, they should have one ready for you at check-in. If not, just ask a Cast Member when you arrive at the first park and they'll let you know where to go.

Have a happy!:stitch:
