I hear about people having suprise ballons in ther rooms, and sometimes birthday signed cards etc.

how do you get this?

When we checked into YC on my birthday, I told the CM it was my birthday. I didn't do it because I was looking for a surprise, I just wanted a not previously smoking room and I was hoping that it being my birthday might inspire her to try hard for me:). (It did).

The day after my birthday when we got back to our room from P&PP, there were 2 balloons and an autographed Mickey photo wishing me a happy birthday...it was cool.

Me & one of my friends were going to WDW. It was here first time. So I called POP like two days before & told them that this was a very special trip for her & that it was her first time. I asked if they could do something real special for her. The said they usually only do something like this for birthdays, etc but they'd see what they could do. We checked in without any special treatment, then we walked into our room & saw this on the bed...

She actually cried! I was so excited that they did something special for her first time to WDW, even though she was 22 at the time. It was magical! :wizard:

Just call the resort a few days before & let them know what the occasion is & hopefully you'll have the same luck I had. :thumbsup2

Not to be a negative nellie, but I've been there twice, with my dd, for her birthday. Once when she turned 6 and again last Oct when she turned 13. Both times it was noted that she was celebrating her birthday..at POR (then DxL!!) and at BWV. Neither time was anything 'special' done. Yes, she did get the requisit birthday cupcake at a few meals, but I did mention the birthday when getting the ADR's set up.
If there is anything you just 'have to have' then I would heartily suggest ordering it yourself. At least you'll know there will be a 'special something' in place...much better than hoping for some magic only to find there isn't any.

We have some friends meeting us there and one friend's birthday is the day before they check in, do you think if I asked them to have a couple of balloons and a card ready for him at check-in they would do it? I'd even pay them to...he would get such a kick out of that :)

1) You want balloons?
2) Tell the CM at check-in you want balloons.
3) With the exception of AKL/AKV you will get them 90% of the time.
4) Remember, don't just mention your b'day, ASK for the balloons & card.

I told them when I made the reservation it would be my sons 4th birthday that week. He got baloons and a signed card and picture from Goofy. This was just the other day. He got a bithday pin also and we both got 1st time pins.

My husband told the CSR it was my 50th birthday via fax a couple of days before our arrival earlier this month. When we checked in I was given balloons and a birthday button. When we had breakfast at the Crystal Palace, our table was decorated with confetti, ribbons and a flower wand and I was given a birthday cake (for breakfast!) and a card signed by Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore and Piglet.

I'm taking my dd, 31, to WDW for her very first time in Jan...think I'll put your statements to the test. I'll ask at checkin and see what happens, although I think it's kinda rude to do then, at the last minute. I would think it would be better to request it when you make the reservation, with a note on the reservation so the room assigners would see it and make a note of it. But, I could be way off base.
So...what happens if you get to POP checkin at noon, ask for balloons for your room due to whatever special thing, and your room is ready right then? Does a CM go running off to beat you to the room? Or do they tell you the room will be ready in about 30 mins? I'm not trying to be argumentative, just really curious.

I made a note on our reservation & called the day before as a reminder. At checking the cm never said a word about it, no special treatment. Our room was ready right away, no balloons, we went to have lunch at DTD & when we got back, we had the above card & balloons on the bed.

Our DD4's 5th bday is during our upcoming trip. I'm going to let the front desk know the day before and ask if there is anything special they could do - I will definitely say "maybe balloons and a signed card" and if I have to pay I don't care. If its for your day of arrival - a week prior I would call & make sure its noted-thats what I did in May and it was going to be $10 for balloons at WL. Sometimes its free sometimes its not I guess. Have fun.

They don't put balloons in the room before you get there... they send a desk runner to your room after you check in. If you're there, they hand them to you, if not, they come in and leave them in the room.

so what do you do if its a solo trip?
ask for balloons for yourself?
I'm honest to God going to WDW for my 50th birthday!
Need to see Off Kilter!

A friend went to Disney for her 40th birthday sans DH or the kiddos. She did not want to request the card/balloons, so I called and had it added to her reservations directly with the hotel. She was SO surprised...

Perhaps in your case, you can get someone to call in advance of your stay, and have them make a note on your file? Most CM's are very willing to ensure you at least get a card, if not the balloons.

Happy 50th Birthday :wizard:
