We are headed down to celebrate my DD sweet 16. Does UO celebrate birthdays the way WDW does? Will she get a button stating it's her bday? Will CM or what ever they are called at UO wish her a happy bday? Will they bring out cupcakes at dinner and sing? Will we receive a balloon in the room along with a card? These are all of the wonderful touches that WDW adds to birthday celebrations, and she mentioned that she would like all of this attention. But we just spent 10days at WDW in July and we thought UO would be more fun for 16.

Well, boo, we've never gotten free cupcakes on our birthdays at Disney!!!!

Pick up a birthday button at Guest Services at Universal. Can't guarantee the cupcakes, but you'll certainly get lots of attention.

Make sure you let them know at the front desk of your hotel about the birthday too. I've heard of many room surprises for birthdays!

The free cupcakes come as part of dinner at WDW restaurants when you mention the birthday at checkin. Thanks for letting me know that UO will make it just as nice.

I think that much like Disney, it is hit or miss what extras might be done..That said we have never had anything extra at either Disney or Universal.

I've had some lovely surprises at RPR in the room for my birthday, so they are good too.

I never wear a birthday button in the parks, but have seen other people get some nice wishes from TM.

Indeed... I have never expected anything to happen so I've never been disappointed when it didn't ;)

It is better for the resorts, parks and restaurant to under promise and over deliver.
I know the last time we were there with my sons BD. Alot of the cast members were acknowledging him, he received a surprise in our room after dinner and even had desert at the restaurant. But the most bang for my buck was strictly the cast members who made his birthday special with their well wishes. They were even shouting at him from afar when they saw his button.

Just back from a Labor Day trip and dd's birthday. They gave her a special pin when we checked into the HRH and the next day they delivered a piece of cake to the room.

Nothing beyond that, but she didn't advertise it was her birthday either. We didn't make a big deal about really either in terms of telling the HRH. They just asked when we checked in if we were celebrating anything and we said it was a birthday trip.

Neither have we, nor have we gotten balloons or a card. It's pixie dust, NOT something that always happens.

Universal has a pin just like WDW does. You have to ask for it, just like at WDW.
