We just celebrated DD's 5th birthday 2 weeks ago at WDW. Which meal are you doing? Make sure to note that you are celebrating a bday in your reservation. At many of our meals, she received a complimentary cupcake. Some also gave her a placemat or card signed by the characters. At the 1900 Park Fare Cinderella dinner, she also received a birthday tiara. Oh, and I pre-ordered a cake for that meal, as it was her birthday dinner.

Make sure you get dd a birthday pin (at your resort or at any of the parks) to wear the whole time you are there. She will get lots of attention from CMs, characters, and other guests. Have fun! :cheer2:

Sorry to jump in on your discussion, but we are also going to Disney World soon to celebrate our son's 4th bd. The timing didn't work out for us to be there on his actual birthday, but we will have our last day there the day before his birthday. I want to get the birthday pin for him at each of the parks that we visit.

My question is: Would it be okay for him to wear the pin the entire 4 or 5 days that we're there, or should we just let him wear it on the last day. I don't want to seem like we're taking advantage of Disney hospitality.

We were just there for dd's 8th birthday. We did Chef Mickey's that night and she got a placemat and a cupcake with a candle - I had them make note of her bd when I made the reservation.

Aside from some of the restaurants that do the placemat/cupcake, Disney does not specifically do things for birhdays UNLESS you pay for it. There are MANY people walking around the parks wearing Birthday, Anniversary & First Trip Buttons. My dd received a lot of "Happy Birthday" greetings from cm's and guests - along with some stickers from some different cm's. Wearing a button doesn't take advantage of Disney hospitality since they don't really do anything "extra" for you - think of all the people they would have to do things for!

Hope you have a great trip!

My daughter collected the birthday pins from all the parks so she wore one every day. We did 1900 Park Fare our first day and she wore the tiara the whole trip! I also ordered the chocolate slipper dessert plate and it was beautiful!!

Totally wear it the whole time!!

Oh, also let them know you are celebrating a birthday at your resort. I told someone at the front desk and they asked what dd's favorite character was. Later that day, we found a balloon and a card signed by Sleeping Beauty in our room. princess:

We are planning to go to chef mickeys for breakfast buffet.. its cheaper and everything sounds yummy lol. Be like the begining of the day for everything and make it early early I think they start reservations at 7am.. if we make it early we can then get to Magic Kingdom before it opens to get in line etc. It will be our first biggest day at WDW.

We will be going March 17th thru the 28th on and off.. with visiting Universal Studios/ IOA / Seaworld / Kennedy space center / and maybe Discovery Cove in between and all.

I just purchased some autograph books off ebay for the autographs from CM characters. Dont know if I will do the birthday thing or not yet. I have two little ones 4 and 2 and it might not be understanding to them the other getting all the extra attention.. but then again it might draw the characters over to the table around us a bit more. My 4 yr old would just get a kick out of it.

YOu said you pay for it?? How so? Does it cost extra to get the balloons/ cupcake etc??

Thanks for any other tips you can give me

I meant that if you wanted a birthday cake or something in your room then you should pay for it. SOMETIMES resorts will put balloons or cards or both in your room, but not always. So if you REALLY want something special, then pay for something. The cupcake and placemat provided at some of the restaurants are free.

That apparantly isn't standard practice by reading other posts, so where were you staying? We will be staying at the GF during my DD"s birthday and I was thinking of telling the hotel to see if they do anything special. We already made ADR at Chef Mickey's her favorite restaurant and will order a cake for that night once we arrive, but I too was wondering what other things we could do for her. I don't expect it for free, but just want to know what other people have done to make their DK's day special. I like the pin idea, it sounds like a great one. I thing she would be so excited to have people sa Happy Birthday to her whenever they see her pin.
