Birthday at Disney, how to make it special?

Hi everyone!

I am new to these boards and hope I amnot asking a silly question

We will be at disneyworld when my daughter celebrates her 15th birthday and want to try and make that day extra special for her ...

we have been told about the buttons that you can pick up in the parks, which we will do but does anyone have experience of what they actually get you, in terms of extra attention from CM's or anything else?

Also, would the resort decorate our room for her if we asked (we are staying at POR)

and, just any other ideas anyone has that would help make the day for her?

The birthday and anniversary buttons at the very least get you extra attention on your special day - there wasn't a cm we passed that didn't say something. You may also get little extras even if it is just a certificate saying it is her special day at the park if you pass the right yomd cm at the right time.
I have never heard of Disney decorating the room, but they do have gift baskets for this purpose you can have them put in ahead of time or deliver that morning.

Check out the b-day cake thread on the restaraunts board... a lot of great ideas for cakes!!! I highly recommend picking a fun place to eat and celebrating with a cake. I had my 30th b-day at Cindy's Royal Table this past Aug. I ordered a special cake that was the best chocolate cake/frosting I've ever had! I also got a special certificate signed by the characters there. You have to mention that you'll be celebrating a b-day when you make the ADR and again when you go to check in for your ADR. It is soooo worth it! What a great way for her to spend her b-day.

If she wears a birthday badge, she'll be taken good care of by the CMs and characters! I'm an adult and even I got many many happy birthday wishes!!!

Make sure you go on the jungle cruise if you have a birthday button. I got a special LITTLE birthday song on my b-day.

My DS turned 15 on Christmas Day this past year and we were at MGM that day. Oh man did he have a great day. I'll bet 200 people said HB to him. On Rock N Roller Coaster, the CM had everyone sing inside the lobby area, then as we were boarding the ride, about 6 teenage girls screamed HB Jeff. He smiled the rest of the day.
Then at PrimeTime 50's for dinner, "Aunt Tracie Sue" our waitress had a very special dessert made for him with every sweet thing she could find in the kitchen, we all laughed.
Then Mickey called his cell phone to wish him a HB.
At MK, he received a free frozen lemonade at the Minute Maid stand by the Teacups.
At MGM he received a free choc. covered marshmallow at the sweetshop.
They let us ride RockN Roller coaster again going through the back way because my 9 year old told the CM is was his brothers BD.
It was great all day for all of us.
We leave next week for our 9 year olds bd, can't wait for the fun all over again.
Oh, and at the resort, if you let them know at check in it's for a birthday, you'll get balloons and a card from your favorite character.

All great ideas! If you order a cake at a WDW rest. do they hold the leftovers for you until you are ready to leave for the night? TIA!

On the restaurant board there is a post about Coral Reef. If you eat dinner there you can call ahead and they will send a divers into the tank with a happy birthday sign. It is free and the number to call is posted on the restaurant board. I thought that sounded really neat.

I just celebrated my birthday there last week. When I checked in I asked for the birthday button. The CM asked when my birthday was, and I told her. Then she just casually asked who my favorite character was and I told her Mickey. I got balloons and a birthday card with an autographed picture of Mickey. Mickey and Minnie also left me a message on my hotel phone. They sang Happy Birthday to me.
CM's and other guests told me happy birthday all day. It was fun! I went into Casey's to get a bottle of water while waiting for the fireworks at the P&P Party. The CM added a birthday brownie for me.
I hope your daughter has a great 15th birthday!

Having your birthday at Disney couldn't be more wonderful. We celebrated at midnight in the Food Court of our hotel, and all the CM sang happy birthday to me and one brought over a cupcake with a candle in it.

Then the morning of my birthday, my boyfriend gave me a tiara and presented me with my "It's My Birthday" button. All day people wished me happy birthday, they sang me happy birthday at breakfast, and in italian in Italy. I got cards and front row seats at the parades. But the greatest was being sung Happy Birthday by Santa Claus at the Very Merry Christmas Party.

What made it special was that my boyfriend went out of his way to it memorable, and that all the CMs recognized the pure excitement on my face celebrating my birthday there.

We were at MK last Sept on my oldest DD's 9th birthday. She got so much attention from the CMs and the characters - it was wonderful. We went to 1900 Park Faire for dinner that night, she got a cupcake, confetti, and a place mat signed by Cinderella, Prince Charming, and others. One CM gave her a free pin. She had people sing Happy Birthday to her about 4-5 times that day.
That night back in our hotel room I noticed that my youngest DD (6 years old) looked sad, so I asked her what was wrong. She said she wanted to go home the next day! I talked to her a while and realized she was jealous of all the attention her big sister had gotten that day! Her birthday is on Dec 24, so we will probably never be at WDW on her birthday, but the next time we go, we will pick one day and try to make it a special day for her - let her pick which park we go to, where we have dinner, etc.

On my birthday trip in 2006, my family and I were walking around Epcot one night. I WAS wearing my "it's my birthday" pin, when a CM walked up to me and asked me if today really was my birthday. I said yes!!! He asked my name and how old I was. He proceeded to yell (gathering quite a crowd of vacationers) "hey everybody, this is Donna from Texas and she's celebrating her birthday today!!!!" He then began singing "happy birthday" and soon the crowd (60-75 people at least) joined in.
My husband has it all on video! This was def. a magical moment for me.
Hoping for another 'magical birthday moment' during this visit also! (We will be there for my birthday AGAIN!) woo hoo

please, please, please don't COUNT on getting special treatment for your birthday. We have been there 2 yrs in a row for dd's birthday, and my other dd's birthday we were there a few years ago. We were also there for my and dh's anniversary. ONCE, at ONE hotel, youngest dd had balloons and signed picture from Mickey in the room as a surprise. The other 2 birthdays and the annivewrsary, nothing special at all. Here and there, an occasional birthday cupcake at a restaurant. A few people (more strangers than CM's) said Happy Birthday. THAT IS IT. We made it special, by ordering a cake and having gifts. We don't mind that nothing was done special most of the time, as people with birthday buttons are very plentiful at WDW -- but just wanted to warn everyone not to expect the same treatment that has been posted above!!

I have a question. We are going to Disney June 6-12th. Then we will be spending a few more days in the Florida area doing other things. I wanted to celebrate my sons 8th birthday at disney. His birthday isn't really until June 17th, but since we will be in the car for 16 hours driving home that dosn't seem like a fun way to celebrate. Is it cheating if I order him a cake and let him wear a birthday button on are last full day at Disney ? The cake I plan to pay for myself so I think that is okay, but I feel a little guilty about the button. I wouldn't want to take something special away from someone else, but if nothing happens and he just gets the joy of wearing the button that dosn't seem like such a big deal. I am open to opinions, but be nice. I am not dishonest and don't want anything special. I just want him to have a memorable birthday.

I also celebrated my DD's 7th birthday this past Jan. and we made our own magic too. Did not get any balloons in the room, we did get her birthday button early in the week and reserved at different restaurants, the best one was at Sci Fi, where after her meal she got a signed card from all the servers and a free sundae. We booked the Birthday cruise for Illuminations and had a a blast there... we got a cupcake at Crystal Palace... One place, Garden Grill (character lunch) we got a whole birthday cake, it was nice... she got a lot of Happy birthday. For breakfast at Ohana's she got a lei and a signed card from the characters, that too was nice. Attention from the characters.

My DW, DD10 and DD5 and I going back in August for DD5 6th birthday. We went last year in June for the first time as a family. I cant help but give in to my princesses to go back. DW is planning on Chef Mickeys for DD5 birthday and BBB in Downtown Dis too. if any one has suggestions on how i can make this special for the whole family and especially DD5 i would appreicate it. I am a Disney Rookie still i ve only been 2 times so far :but i am forever hooked on the Magic of the Dis.
