Birthday/Anniversary Button

We will be in Disney over my b-day as well as our 5 year annivsersary and I am not a big fan of wearing the buttons. But, I am curious - are they worth it? We will be dining 3 buffets and one sit down meal over the course of our trip. If we wear the buttons, will any of the CMs notice?

If they do notice they may tell you happy birthday.

Why would you want them to notice? What would you expect them to say or do?

I don't see the point in wearing the buttons because you are basically just advertising that you want ppl to tell you happy birthday who wouldn't probably normally even say boo to you. But they are trained to say something if you are wearing a button.

To me it is just attention seeking, especially if you are no longer a child.

I can see a parent maybe wanting ppl to make a big deal of a little kids special day but for adults, I think it is pointless. That's just my opinion.

For our honeymoon in this past October I had it noted on our dining reservations. I had the Just Married pin on my bag. We did Garden Grill at EPCOT and Crystal Palace at MK. Each restrurant gave us a card that said "Happy Honeymoon" signed by the characters and at the Crystal Palace on our table when we arrive at a heart made out of mickey shaped confetti. We got to keep the confetti in a plastic baggie.

Since EVERYONE is a kid in Disney World, if you would like someone to say Happy Birthday or Happy Anniversary to you at a meal, then by all means wear the button. DH and I wear our anniversary buttons when we are there and we've gotten anywhere from a "Happy Anniversary, to a cupcake, to a confetti decorated table, to a free dessert to champagne. Do we expect it -- absolutely not, but it is a nice gesture by the CM's if they so desire.

Trust me - they will notice. I actually tried to hide mine I got so tired of hearing "Happy Birthday" allday!

Besides the "happy birthday" from cast members, only one special thing has happened while wearing a pin. But, it was simple and made my day (and yes, I'm a 31 year-old guy).

A few weeks ago, I was walking through the gift shop after riding Space Mountain, and a male cast member (maybe 50?) said, "Happy Birthday! Come over here."

I said, "Thank you," and walked over to him and another cast member (female, 25-ish).

We talked about how he had seen me walk through the gift shop after riding Space Mountain earlier in the morning, and he was curious if the CM assigning seats was smart enough to put me in seats 2, 3, 5, or 6 because of my height (I didn't mind since he was also tall... there's an unspoken club of tall people, I suppose). We talked a little bit more, and he said that he had someone who wanted to talk to me. He handed me a phone, and I listened to Goofy sing "Happy Birthday" to me.

It cracked me up, and made me laugh. It's probably the simplest, but best, birthday present I received this year.

The CMs will definitely notice. Not all of them will acknowledge it, but some of them will. We had breakfast at Boma for DS's 13th birthday in March and he wore his button. Many of the CMs at AKL wished him a happy birthday, as did some of the guests. We certainly didn't expect them to, but it was very nice. Our server at Boma definitely noticed...he was fantastic. He brought DS a birthday dessert and then decided that the two of them should hold a "birthday photo shoot". They struck various funny poses while I snapped away with my camera. Our server then made me and DH sing Happy Birthday to DS, and then he proceeded to make fun of our singing voices (it was well deserved, LOL). Absolutely hilarious! DS really enjoyed it.

Wearing the Pins is a special way to celebrate your day. When we went to WDW last September during the What will you celebrate theme, we were given Happy Anniversary buttons.

Even at EPCOT they were passing out buttons to everyone.

I don't think people do this to get special attention, it is just another way to celebrate.

Get the pins and enjoy yourselves!!

Whenever we are at WDW celebrating either a birthday or an anniversary we will note it on our ADR's. We also wear the button. Now like some PP's have mentioned whether or not anything happens is up to the CM. The best birthday surprise we have seen was for my daughter's 1st birthday at Garden Grill. She was given a birthday card that was signed by all the characters and the server. We loved our server! They also put confetti on the table and she was given a cupcake. We seriously loved this and we were very appreciative. Just a great way to celebrate a 1st birthday. As for anniversaries.. The best was at Boma when our server brought out a special plate that said "Happy Anniversary!" written out in chocolate.. On the plate were some of the desserts they serve. We were also given a very nice card signed by all the cast members from Boma. It was very touching and very nice.

Really for us we like the buttons because when you look back at the pictures later you can sometimes tell which trip it is just by looking at the buttons.

My middle son will turn 12 during our trip, and he'll be wearing a pin. I hope tons of people wish him a happy birthday - he's a real attention hound (and poor middle child... lol), so having his bday acknowledged all day would be about the best gift he could get! Anything they do or say beyond happy bday would be awesome but totally unnecessary; sure, he likes "stuff," but he'd much rather just be noticed.

Well IMO the pin wearing is a fab thing, I have worn many diffrent pins (Just married) when i got married at Disney and hubby and I got a wonderful little cake (not the cup cakes) brought out to us at Crystal Palace also had a card sighned by the charecters and other stuff) When we have gone bk on our Anniversarys everybody says happy Anniversary I personally love that! we have been given special treats in deiffrent restaurents, they will right Happy Anniversary in your dessert for you or sometimes they even bring you out a diffrent dessert altogether which is a tasting plate with strawberrys dipped in chocolates on it!
My son has had 3 actuall Birthdays at Disney world and in every Charecter buffet he has had a Cup Cake with Micky sprinkles all over it and a candle and they sing happy Birthday that has to have happend 10 meals out of 14!
When my mum wore her Birthday pin she got Cup cakes lots of Happy Birthdays Fast pass given to her, Charecters giving her a llittle play ful attention! Forgot to mention that if you tell them to note on a ressie that Its yours on a child bday then they may put Micky glitter on the tables for you! When we wore our Anniversary Badges (we do it every holiday as we always go that time of yr) I have been given special Collecter pins that only the CMs can give you! and at Coral reef i was given 2 little glass clip dolphines very cute!I dont know if we have just been lucky but to be honest i have seen these small but Wonderful things happen where ever i am at Disney,And if it makes my childs day that somebody knows his Bday is that day and say Happy Birthday Brandon(as they put ur names on the pins then it makes me smile even more, I have to say It brings a lot of joy to me to have people wish me a happy Birthday or Happy Anniversary but that must make me an ATTENTION SEEKER! mind you I dont care makes me smile So If you want to wear your badge then definatly do it Im sure that is why they brought out the whole Celebrate and wear a Pin thing anyways

Totally get what your saying My oldest son has to contend with the most adorable looking Twin brothers hahaha, so Makes his day to have his bday all about HIM! And rightly so! you will never get more attention and feel more special then having Mickey and co say Happy Birthday to you! IMO....

We've been taking WDW trip for DS's birthday. Most CMs are very attentive and aknowledge birthdays and any kinds of celebration. In fact, sometimes, its too much after a few days but DS always wears them especially to TS restaurants. He likes little perks he gets such as decorated tables, special desserts with candles, etc.

We are going down in August and we are celebrating our 25th Anniversary. I will happily and proudly wear my anniversary pin while touring the parks! So of course I say go for it. It doesn't cost anything extra and if you decide it's not for you, you can simply take it off and save it as a souvenir of your trip!

My husband and I were married at WDW in December and we wore our 'Just Married' buttons with pride! We didn't expect to receive anything from anyone, but getting the occasional 'Congratulations' from CMs just made it extra special. I say go for it!

Will they notice? Most definitely! We go almost every year for our anniversary, and almost (but not quite) get sick of hearing "Happy Anniversary". Mom and Dad just came back from celebrating their anniversary, wore their buttons proudly, and the first day alone the CMs took them to the front of a CS resturant, made a big announcement over the intercom, and led everyone in a chorus of "Happy Anniversary"s. Is it worth it? You might get a free dessert occassionally, but you might not. Either way, it's worth it for all the good wishes you get.

We did the same thing for our 25th last July. It was fun for us to see the "Just Married" buttons because I would always told them "When you come back in 25 Years they give you one of these!"

As for getting extra stuff, some times yes, usually no. But it is a pleasant surprise when a stranger (either a Cast Member or just another guest) wishes you a Happy Anniversary.
