We are considering a cruise in 2005, but not set on dates. My son turns 3 in late summer. Do we need to provide a birth certificate if we go before he turns 3, and only pay port charges? Thanks for any help!

From what I understand, every single person on the ship must have at least a birth certificate, even infants and young children. Adults over age 18 need a birth certificate PLUS a form of picture ID. Here is what it says right on the Disney Cruise Line web site:

What documentation do I need to bring?

All U.S. and Canadian citizens must travel with proof of citizenship, which is a valid passport, original, state-certified birth certificate and picture identification, or a certified naturalization certificate with a picture identification. Acceptable forms of picture identification are state or provincial driver's license, or federal, state, province or local government photo I.D. card. **Guests age 17 and under who are U.S. or Canadian citizens are only required to have proof of citizenship, excluding picture identification.** These guidelines are based on U.S. government regulations which are subject to change at any time. It is the Guest's responsibility to check with their Travel Agent, government agencies, embassies or consulates prior to their vacation to ensure that they have proper documentation. Any Guest traveling without proper documentation will not be allowed to board the vessel and no refund of cruise fare will be issued.

Hope this helps! :)

Hi there-

It's a great age to cruise! You will need proof of citizenship (birth certificate of passport) for every member of your party. Under three is also a great time to go because you only pay port charges and taxes. Try to time your trip within a month of your child's birthday - that way they can take advantage of the club and everything DCL offers for the 3 and up set, without penalty of cost.

Have a great trip!!!

I'm going to add... ESPECIALLY CHILDREN. When we went to Canada when our son was 5 our TA told us to bring his BC. Good thing he did because we wouldn't have. At the border, that was the thing they were most concerned about - that DS was a us citizen and that he was our DS (child kid nappings and what not you know)
