I know this has been posted here before and I do apologize if a repeat but I can’t get clarification or I’m just not reading properly.

I will be bringing my kids birth Certificates on the Wish (so closed loop) as they don’t have passports yet. Is it acceptable to take the original to a copy machine, make a copy and bring that? It does say original or copy on DCL website but I’m just second guessing myself as I don’t want to get denied at the port. I felt it wasn’t allowed
But seems like it might be. Thanks in advance.

They even accept pictures of the original on your phone. That's what my daughter and family used in June. They do not accept pictures of Passports though.

Not acceptable. Has to be the actual original with either a seal or on engraved paper. Just like a photo copy of money, worthless.

Then why did they accept my daughter's and son-in-laws and grand kids birth certificate pictures on her phone????????? As she said DCL's website even says copies.

Original or copy of their state-issued birth certificate AND Government-issued photo ID

I would for sure get a certified copy of the original. I don't trust policy enforcement to be uniform across employees so I always try to err on side of caution

Customs even accepted the phone pics when they disembarked along with their DL's.. :confused3

They messed up. With photocopies and photos the document can't be examined to determine if it is authentic. If you do some Google research you will see that same.

As I said above I guess US Customs did too, it wasn't an issue for a closed loop cruise.
My personal issue was with Canadian Immigration when my son was 2. The Canadian officials said that without a photo, they had no way of telling if this was actually my child. I had his birth certificate and a letter from the Canadian Consulate confirming that all I needed was a birth certificate. From that point on, my kids NEVER traveled internationally without a Passport. Never had another issue.

That's completely different than a closed loop out of Canaveral and with that said my son had no problems with just birth certificates for their kids going into and out of Canada from Seattle for our Alaska cruise in 2019. The kids were all under 14. Just relaying my experiences..

You got lucky.

You need a certified copy not just a copy.

Save all the issues and just get a passport and be done with it honestly.

You got lucky for sure.

FWIW... We did the closed loop Dream in February and I decided since there was so much conflicting information on copy versus original I just brought the originals with us because I didn't want to have an issue that prevented us from doing what we needed. I also kept them in the safe in the room and had a copy when we left the ship for Nassau and Castaway Cay. No one asked us for them when we got off on the islands only at embarkation and debarkation.
