Ooops..Hubby forgot to renew his passport and now I have to scramble and try to get an original BC in case the passport dosen't make it back in time. Does anybody here have the website handy?

Thanks
Marie:confused:

How did he get a passport with out his original certified BC to begin with?

Call the state records office where he was born. They will be able to tell you how to get the certificate, and it will cost less than the service. The service charges you for doing what you can do yourself.

I agree with Mickey, they can arrange everything for you over the phone and should be less money, but the website is vitalchek.com

I am sure if I rip my house apart his original will turn up but it's easier to just get a new one.

I guess Illinois is like Florida, you can't order the BC direct, have to go thru vitalcheck.com.

Thanks!!

I don't understand. Why would you not be able to order a BC directly from the issuing state? I know I did for mine in Mass, that seems odd to me.

I just looked at FL Vital Statistics, the person needing the certificate can order it. If it is for a minor child, the parent can order it. http://www.doh.state.fl.us/planning_eval/vital_statistics/birth_death.htm

Illinois has a web site also that you can order from. http://birth-certificates.net/illinois.htm athough it appears that vitalcheck does the processing.

Hopefully his BC will turn up in a safe place and his passport will come back in time.

I find it hard to beleive you cant order directly from the issuing state. When I did a search for ours...some areas did come up with vital check doing the processing (DOH for one)...but when I dug a little further I found many ways to get ours with out going through vital check...and saving a good deal of money along the way.

One way was not to go to the State department...but to the birth county in the state (for example we went to King County, WA VItal records and/or Santa Cruz County Ca vital records)...better yet go to the city's department of vital records. We were able to get ours in CA and WA that way.

Good luck. I'd say if your thinking your going to have time to get hubbys replacment passport then you have plenty of time to research where to get his BC from.

I was just going through the steps to order my dh's birth certificate through vital-chek (following the link that someone provided - State of Illinois apparently uses Vital Check) and in the last stages of ordering, just before submitting where it verifies the info -- it shows that this is a NON-certified birth certificate. Now what??

I need a CERTIFIED, right?

Help!

Kris

I have no clue about these services, but is there someone you know in the town your husband was born in that can pickup a copy from the local recorder?
Here in California the county you were born in, not the state, handles birth and death certificates. I deal with this all the time because I am involved in Little League baseball, and LL requires a certified copy of a birth certificate. I think it costs $12 now, takes about 15 minutes to get, but you have to go there to get it.
