We are going on the 3 night Wonder in August. I did not have a photo on my license and just went through the worse time of my life trying to get one. All I can say is if your getting married, DO NOT change your name. It will save you a lot of problems down the road. Anyway, having the problems I just went through trying to prove to the DMV that Im really me, will I have the same problem with DCL showing them my birth certificate in my maiden name and my drivers license in my married name. Im sure this is done all the time. Right? Since we have our original birth certs. I was trying to save money by not getting a passport. It may be to late now anyway as we leave for Fla. in 35 days.

You won't have any problem with DCL as long as you have a valid birth certificate. My license has my marriage name on it, so I just guess they believe that it's my birth certificate !LOL!

Good thing you got a drivers license with a picture ID. They will ask for it all the time when you exit and reboard at each stop. On our last cruise, we bought a DCL lanyard that has a plastic holder at the bottom to keep our room key and license in.

Don't worry and enjoy!

I was told to bring a certified copy of our marriage license. I just went to the town clerk in the town we were married in. It states your maiden name and your married name on it.
(along with alot of other information) This proves you are the same person listed on your birth certificate. I think it cost about ten dollars. Make sure you get the certified copy with the raised seal. This is different from the certificate the church presents you with. It has certainly been worth it for me. "I bring that along with all of our birth certificates and never had any trouble.

Hope that helps.

Allison,

I never knew that you could get a marriage certificate. I've been married 25 yrs and didn't know it existed! I guess I was just lucky. We're leaving for another cruise this Sunday and I'm just bringing my old birth certificate. Wish me luck!

Thanks for the positive replies. It really sets my mind at ease. I was so close to not going that my husband and kids were joking about yelling bon voyage from the boat to me while I stood on the dock.

i asked the same question about name changes before i left for our cruise. i felt pretty sure of myself after getting all of our documents in order...that is...until i hit the check-in counter at Port Canaveral. i don't even like to think about this because i get mini heart attacks. anyway, we get to the port and i didn't have my husbands birth certificate. i had misplaced it. thoughts of leaving him behind rushed through my head and i turned sheer white. but for everyone out there who has nightmares of this... it was actually no big deal at all. he just filled out this form and was never asked for his birth cert. again, even during the whole immigration process. so don't worry. be happy. :)

Passports aren't that expensive.....it saves alot of time and carrying all kinds of paperwork with you. If you do choose to not do the passport thing I would suggest taking a certified copy of your marriage license with you are to proof of why the name change. Will save alot of hassle. It is required for travel into Mexico.

Not true.

There is no requirement for a marriage license to enter Mexico. A passport, or valid ID/certified B.C. combo, and a tourist visa is all that you need.

For more info, consult the Embassy of Mexico's Consular Section, 2827 16th St., N.W., Washington, DC 20009-4260 (202/736-1000), or http://travel.state.gov/foreignentryreqs.html

EXCUSE ME...... Larry.

dancechick...required was not a good word choice, I should have said helpful. When we have sent clients down to Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, Cabo, etc we have found thru THEIR comments it is very helpful to have a copy of the marriage certificate to help the process into the country. Have a wonderful vacation...

Sorry if my correction of your mistake offended you, dianedisney. I meant no disrepect or offence towards you.

BUT.....I've seen so much false information and misstatements in these threads regarding travel documents that it needed to be corrected.

Your use of the the phrase "required for travel to Mexico" has a definite meaning. It usually means "to demand as necessary or essential". And that innocent piece of fals einformation could have caused someone to needlessly worry about a document that is not required.

Of course, just as you said, a passports solves all of these problems.

Now, now. Be nice everybody. I appreciate all your help. The only thing is, unless it turns into a Gilligans Island cruise, Im not going anywhere near Mexico.

FYI for anyone who might be reading this who has marriage plans in his/her future: in CA, and I believe in most states, when the completed marriage certificate is mailed in (usually the officiant does this, but some might have you do it after they've signed), you can include a check and request to get a certified copy of your marriage license. Very easy to do it at that time, and then you'll always have it handy should you need it. If you are already married and need one, contact the registrar in the county (parish? in some states) in which you were married and ask how to get one.

It is absolutely NOT required to have a copy of your marriage license when traveling on DCL.

You absolutely DO need a certified copy of your birth certificate plus an approved photo ID, or a passport.

DCL will compare the DATES OF BIRTH AND FIRST NAME on your birth certificate or passport with the same items on your approved photo ID. If they match, you're fine. :) They assume that married women have changed their names.

No Larry, I should apologize......it is the "chick thing" PMS. You said nothing wrong, it was my emotional day.....

Sorry.....

So let me get this straight. You need:

Passport and nothing else

or

Birth Certifcate & picture ID
