Birks in Disney?

We leave for Disney on Saturday and have been many, many times. I have a pair of Birkenstocks that I wear all the time ( got them last summer) but am leery to take them due to the rain that occurs daily this time of year. Any suggestions from people who have taken Birks in whether I should take them or leave them?? Thanks!

I took my Birks on our first trip thinking they would be the perfect shoe. I haven't brought and won't bring them again. Yes, rain can be a problem but more than that for me, I think, is that the Birks on concrete all day long were a really bad combination. Yes, I wear them at home all the time, but I'm not perpetually on concrete. Back to the rain, though. When it rains, many areas have the potential to actually fill with a couple of inches - or more - of water in the walkways. Epcot is terrible about this, and we've experienced it in Tomorrowland and Fantasyland, too. Plus, if you plan on riding Splash Mountain or Kali River, you might want a different shoe choice there, too.

Teva Hurricane is now my choice for a park shoe. No complaints about them.

I wear my birks all day at Disney and have never had a problem. My advice is try to avoid a good soaking but if it happens I have not had a problem. Also, bringing a pair of change up shoes (advice I would give for any type of shoe) has always been a life saver for me. Full disclosure, I have foot issues. I wear birks one day and a different pair of birks or my running shoes the next. Good luck!

I wore Birkenstocks in the parks - but that was in April with no rain. I had no problems with sore feet at all. However - if you have an alternative shoe, you might want to take those - I've been caught in downpours elsewhere in my Birks & the suede footbed gets squishy. I'd also be afraid that the cork footbed would get damaged in heavy rain.

Birkenstock sandals are not weather-proof, but they help my plantar fasciitis big time, so I wear them as much as I can while I'm at WDW.

They are on my feet in the hotel room and while I'm out & about the resort. I hesitate to wear them to the parks. A bad rainstorm could ruin then, and when the soles are worn down, they are dangerously slippery.

Unless you are bringing the new style of Birks that's entirely plastic, I wouldn't wear them during the rainy season. Last May, my daughter wore her brand new Birks on our trip, had no rain, no issues. On our late May trip this year, we had one day where we were caught in monsoon like rain, and the cork soles on the same Birks were ruined to the point it was painful for her to walk in. We had to buy her another pair of sandals for the rest of the trip.

It's a maybe maybe not situation. I started wearing Birks about 25 years ago. I loved the support. There were waterproof versions that worked great. I had a zillion pair. As I got older they started not working for me. Tevas which I had hated when younger started to be my preferred sandal - especially Teva Mush. Now the Mush doesn't work that great for me but there are other versions that do.

Just figure out what works for you today.

I always wear mine. I know they shouldn't, but I have gotten them soaked. They take FOREVER to dry, but they have all survived.

I wear my Birks every day, until there's snow on the ground, I'm wearing them! I've taken them on every trip, they are my go to shoe. I always pack a light weight pair of shoes ( they are a type of crocs) in my backpack for rain. Sounds excessive for some, but it works for me. Our first trip, I wore my Birks, and it POURED! My Birks became oil slicks. I eventually just took them off and went barefoot ( this was during a MNSSHP so we weren't leaving)!
I plan to get the waterproof Birks for this upcoming trip, and they will be my rain shoes.
I personally have never experienced an issue with my Birks with concrete walking. We also go in October or December, so the weather is much cooler.
I dont take a back up shoe to switch out every other day. My Birks have been wonderful! Hope this helps!

I just purchased the Madrids in plastic. I have to start breaking them in because I'm hoping to wear them at Disney in September.

All of a sudden, my plantar fasciitis is acting up in one foot. I thought (wrongly) that I was cured. I'm doing the exercises now that I had almost forgotten about.
