Bird friendly hotels?

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for hotels where we can safely take our birdies with us?

For those who don't know, birds are very fragile little creatures. So much can kill them easily, including the smell of cleansers or fragrances, even a teflon pan being heated too high. Which means housekeeping needs to be extra careful around them. :scared:

Also, because they're birdies and are caged when we're not around, we need hotels that will let them stay in the room while we're gone. I hate the sun, so we'll be spending looooooooooooooooong afternoons in the hotel and they'll get plenty of time out. :goodvibes

Thanks in advance, and sorry if this is a repeat thread. I tried searching, but didn't find anything as specific as what I'm looking for.

If it were me, I would either leave the birds with some trusted friends (which is what we used to do) or think about renting a house/villa/condo where you won't have housekeeping coming in daily. You can open it up and air it out when you arrive, and then you will have control of what goes on around the birds until you leave.

I can't think of a single hotel, especially pet friendly ones, that don't use fairly strong (and strong smelling) cleaning materials.

You might find a rental home that would accept them and then you wouldn't have to worry about anyone using cleaners but you while you are there. I would leave them home and hire someone to take care of them if I owned birds. I can't imagine traveling is much fun for them. They are liable to get too hot or too cold in the car and get sick from that.

are you driving from CA to FL?

Thanks for the suggestions. There's only 2 of us, but maybe a condo rental would be best. It certainly sounds the safest, and that's most important for us.

We definitely wouldn't be driving from California! My husband was hired to teach high school physics back east. He recently got diagnosed with testicular cancer, so we're not sure at the moment if he can still accept the job. But if he can, he moves on June 12 and I move on Jan 5 (I can't leave earlier because of school).

Leaving the birds isn't really an option because we don't know anyone who could care for them and give them a lot of time out of their cages. His family is a bit scared of birds, even though they're so tiny. Plus, so far, they travel really well and adapt very quickly. They like to cuddle under our shirts, so they could ride inside our shirts part time on the trip down, or we could drive at night, while they're sleeping.

Thanks again for the advice!
