I notice in another thread that Muppet has some concerns about Bill Wongs, particularly with cleanliness. Has anybody been recently, and can we have your opinion ?
Thats interesting. Cant offer a recent review (we were there last July) but I had thought the place had slipped a little last year. It wasnt nearly as busy as usual, even though it was 4th of July week, and most of Orlando was heaving. I definately saw a slide in the quality of the food....still fine, but not EXCELLENT as in previous years. Im very, very fussy about cleanliness (will send a plate or spoon back with the merest spot) and I didnt notice anything astray in this department.
We have been eating at Bill Wongs since 1995, and its always been high on our list of places to return to. I particularly liked the fact that so many locals ate there as well as tourists. I have ear-wigged in on many a fascinating conversation between execs from Universal Studios lunching at BWs . I would say that there maybe a problem, as the locals seem to have desserted the place in droves....this makes me wonder if standards have slipped even more since last summer. If so, it will be a shame, as its one of our traditional Orlando eateries.
Hope someone out there can offer a more recent review???
Only a little more recent I'm afraid, we went in August last year.
We loved Bill wongs & ate there 3 times & had no qualms about the cleanliness. We also recommended it to friends this Christmas & New year. My friend AM is much more fussy then me & she would have noticed anything wrong & didn't.
What we did say to our friends was not to be put off by BW surroundings & I do think that's where it has suffered. a couple of shops nearby have shut down & the soviner shop on the corner was def scruffy.
Well I recommended it to my mum and dad who ate there in sept 03 and found it great.
But we ate there dec03 and it wasn't the outside it was inside and it was terrible. The water incident happened after being in there for 20 minutes and trust me if I had seen or smelt the toilets before hand we would of walked straight back out.
In my opinion it being fussy (which I am) is one thing but basic cleaniness is another.
Well we eat there two weeks ago, does that count as recent enough.
And I am afraid I have to report that the standards have definately slipped since we were last there in Dec 2000. Can't say I noticed any cleanliness problems, but the choice of food seemed less, the quantities were a problem, ie only small amounts of chicken or pork fried rice put out at a time which soon got snapped up leaving you waiting ages for reinforcements, and all the ice cream tubs were empty, or at least the best flavours were. In addition the quality of the food was poor. The chicken in the sweet and sour dish was mainly batter and gristle and not like any chicken I have tasted before, and the spare ribs had NO meat on them, just loads of sauce covering gristle and bone.
We had recommended this place to every one based on our 2000 experience, suffice to say we will not be returning.
Oh, and in addition it was the dearest meal we had coming out at around $56 with tip and a soft drink for 2 adults and 2 kids. We seemed to average $35 to $40 at almost everywhere else we eat.
