BIL - prayers for his kids please

BIL passed away tonight. Just turned 44 this week. I don't know any of the details except for something happened while he was in the shower.

SIL walked out on their family a couple of months ago. Left BIL with 3 teenage kids to take care of. Dnephew, 16, called tonight. DH is on his way to the hospital.

Dnephew is adamant that they (the kids) do not want to call their mother. The divorce is not final yet, therefore, I think SIL is still BIL next of kin. Also the whole issue of the kids notifying her. I think she now has to take responsibility for their well being. Kids have not seen or spoken to their Mom during all of this time.

It's going to be a tough situation. If you have any extra prayers, I'd appreciate them.

Gosh, how awful for those teenagers. Losing a parent must be difficult enough let alone when there are issues with the remaining parent. Prayers are on the way and I am so sorry for your loss.

That is so sad. Teenagers need parents as much, if not more, as younger children.

That is so sad - 44 is FAR too young! Loads of prayers to you and your family - and mostly especially, the children..

Obvioulsy the mom must be notified and hopefully the shock of this will force her to behave in a responsible manner..

You are right about the mother being the next of kin... I had a friend die suddenly a few years back - had been separated from his wife, never divorced. It was very awkward at his funeral, as the wife was the next of kin and the mother had been named his insurance beneficiary.

So sad. I hope the mom steps up and does as she should.
