BIL lost car rental info.

My BIL just told me he lost the reservation number for his rental car and he doesn't remember the name of the company. He says he has called ALL of the rental companies and no one has his reservation.

Any suggestions on what to do? He gave them his credit card number to hold it, but they said they wouldn't charge it until he picked up the car. Will they charge him if he doesn't show up?
