BIL has extremely low white blood count...any ideas what the cause could be?

My BIL has had issues for about 6 months now with his white blood count being low. They did a bone marrow test and it came back negative. Doctors has basically told him they don't know what is wrong. He is headed to Duke next week, so we are hoping for some sort of diagnosis from them.

I am not expecting anyone here to diagnose him, but just wondered if any of you have yourself had or know anyone that has had low white counts and what was the cause?

I have a toddler with blood counts that are always off, including low white and high red and several other things as well. After ruling out a bunch of possible problems they just keep an eye on it and have him tested every few months.

Glad your BIL is going to Duke, they are one of the best. We travelled there to see a specialist for my DS as well. Also like the fact that you look at test results on-line via their website.

I have no professional knowledge but a friend was in the same situation. I read along the way that this could be connected to gluten allergies. Just a thought.

Anemia has to do with Red Blood Cells
