We're planning to bring our bikes along the next time we come to FW. Can't seem to find an answer to this question: Can you bike from place to place on property? If so, where can we park the bikes once we get there? We would like to bike to TTC or other places to gain access to parks or resort restaurants.

It makes so much sense to open that option up to resort guests...

Thanks!

I have seen security "return" bikers to the fort - there really is no safe places to bike on WDW roadways. You can bike from FW to WL, however.

Just to elucidate further, the only road out of the Fort is a narrow 45MPH road travelled heavily by buses, motorhomes and RV trailers... no matter how well you 'hold a line' it's not a safe road for bikes.

You really don't wanna leave the FW or WL property with your bikes,,,I'm a lousey driver and I tend to cruise the roads of Disney a lot when I'm there.

Walking, biking, and/or jogging is highly frowned upon, except on established paths or sidewalks. Unfortunately, there are very few of those along the public roadways at WDW.

The only ones that I know of are:

Between the All-Star Resorts and Coronado Springs on West Buena Vista

Near the Boardwalk area. It connects the Boardwalk to the Hess Station.

Between DTD, Saratoga Springs, and Old Key West.

The path between WL and Ft. Wilderness

The walkway that connects the TTC, Polynesian, and GF

The walkway that runs from the International Gateway at Epcot and the Studios.

Along these lines, does anyone know if there's an official place to park your bikes if you ride from FW to WL? When we went last fall, we couldn't find anyplace, and I didn't want to keep riding around the paths looking (didn't want to run anyone over!). We sort of tucked them out of the way near the entrance, but I didn't feel like that was the best solution, either.:confused3

At some point between our December 2008 trip and our visit in March 2009, they had added a bike rack between the bike rental shack at the beach and the small pool at the WLV. Now, it's possible that was put there temporarily while Fort guests were allowed to use the WL pool, and maybe they've since removed it. Hopefully someone who has visited recently will know.

Dave already partially beat me to the punch on this, but I wanted to confirm that yes, there are bike racks in the area of the pool and marina at Wilderness Lodge.

This question was answered on these threads (remember, there is a great search feature on these Boards):

And, to help explain this, here is a photo. The red star indicates the new bike rack that Dave mentioned. The green star indicates the marina rental building. If you bike to WL, and just continue to follow the bike path, you will head right to this area:

Having bicycled on some of the roads at WDW in the past, I will just say that I am not really comfortable riding the roads at present. The traffic has increased immensely and the drivers are crazier.

To qualify my answer let me just mention that this Saturday I will be again bicycling 125 miles on roads between Port Charlotte and Sarasota, Fl. Speed limits on the roads I use range from 30mph to 55mph. I still feel more comfortable on these roads than at WDW.

As far as an option to bike from resort to resort, I don't think that would be a benefit for Disney because of additional liabilities. I much prefer to use the individual Resort paths and roads for my exercise and leave the driving to Disney.

If you want to ride outside of WDW, you can leave FW using the path from FW to WL and then exit WL, turn right at the light, ride past CR and bike off property to surrounding roads. Bing or Google will have the roads.

Thanks for the info, Dave and TCD!

And TCD, yup, know about the search feature. But then I would have missed out on your cool enhanced photo! :thumbsup2

Thanks guys. You confirmed what I thought was the case. I guess that I can at least ride off my dinner we have planned at WL! :rotfl2: Although it will probably take 3 or 4 trips between WL and FW to take care of that...
