OK, after re-learnign how to rid ethis spring, we're going ot break down and get a trainer this year. COuple questions:

1. Fluid's are typically quieter than magnetic, right? Are they better in other ways?

2. How important is it to be able to change reisitancce instead of just going with the typical trainer that increases resistance with speed?

TIA!

I have a CycleOps Fluid for my crank chair and its great.....but very hard work!!!!!

I would get one where you can change resistance regardless of speed, sometimes I just want to do a slow hard pull session, others fast and easy.

First of all, check eBay. There's always lots of people who had the right intentions but lacked motivation. I got a Kurt Kinetic Road Machine for $130+shipping when it retails for like $300 or $400 like many others.

It's a fluid and my first/only trainer so I don't have much to compare to, but I've heard the resistance is "smoother" than a mag when it comes to slowing down or speeding up, hence them being more expensive. I personally make it harder/easier by changing gears, so as far as I can tell the resistance on the tire is always the same.

Oh, and buy a huge fan to put in front of it. I still haven't done that yet I have a tiny one, and boy do I make a mess...

We bought magnetic trainers since we didn't want to lay out alot of money up front and we needed two. Haven't had any problems with them and they were $99 each on sale from Performance.

I change resistance by changing gears too so can't speak to that part.

Big YES on the fan. We have a stand fan and it is so nice to have. I still sweat like crazy but at least I stopped leaving puddles on the floor. lol

Hi, Carrie!
:goodvibes

I have a mag trainer and it works just fine for me. I don't notice significant noise, but I just crank up the TV!

You can just use your bike gears to change resistance. Also, make sure the flywheel is tight (but not crazy tight) to your bike tire.

Thanks for reminding me...guess I need to think about getting a bike set up for the winter.

Thanks everyone! We endedup with an Ascent Fluid. Scott works in a facotry and is very noise sensitivve when he comes home :confused3. We saww a mag loccally and it seemed very loud.

OCuldn't find many bargains on e-bay. Probably shoudl have tried in teh spring.

Got an Ascent fluid from Performance. Shoudl get it tomorrow! Of course, I'll eb lucky to have a spot to put it before the end of the weekend.
