Is it possible to leave your bikes at the Marina where you catch the boat to MK? Do you lock your bikes up if you leave them? We plan on using ours alot in the coming week, and want to know what to expect.

Thanks

(Arrive on Friday!)

Yes, there are bike racks near the marina and other areas around the Fort. We rodes our bikes all over the place, and even over to the Wilderness Lodge. :thumbsup2 Have a great trip !! :goodvibes

I would lock up my bikes.:thumbsup2
We love the Fort people, but mistakes happen.

Whenever our bikes our out of our range of vision...we lock them. Back in 2003 we had our golf cart parked in front of Settlement while we were in the MK. A friend of ours was sitting on Burl's Porch and saw this couple actually trying to steal our cart! :scared1: This was on a Friday nite when FtW is usually crowded. My DH had installed a kill switch on the batteries - so someone would had to have pushed it to steal it...but the guy tried never the less. Our cart was customized and looked like no other cart. Our friend approached the dude and asked if he needed a hand. The guy (who was 40 something & very drunk) said the batteries must be dead. Randy told him the batteries weren't dead, but he would soon find himself dead if he didn't get off & back away from our cart. "Mean Gene" came up a few minutes later and escorted the guy & his wife away from our cart & back to his cabin. Gene told us the next day that the guy was asked to leave FtW and his name was added to the DNB (do not book) list. I didn't even know such a list existed until then.

Moral to the story? Lock your bikes up.

Too bad they didn't make away with that ottah, ol wynotta. This gives me an idea to get new parts for my cart.:lmao:

Lock them up but make sure you keep a copy of all the combinations with you so when you get off the ferry at 130am from the EMH at the MK and your son forgets his combination to the cable he locked his and mom's bike together dad doesn't have to ride from the Settlement to the 2000 loop to get the combination, then the 2000 loop back to the Settlemant to give said son the combination then from the Settlement back to the 2000 loop.:thumbsup2

Bike racks are available all over FW - the Meadows pool, both trading posts, Trail's End, the Settlement and Outpost bus stops and the Marina. I always lock up. A few years ago I was sitting on the porch at Crockett's when two kids came up and said - "Hey, look at the bikes. Let's take 'em." Then they saw they were locked and I walked up to mine and unlocked it. They turned tail and ran.

My kids had new bikes on our last trip in Jan. 08 and never locked them when we left them at the bike racks. No one ever bothered them but you never know! I guess if you want to take the time or your bike is worth lots of $$$ it would be worth the trouble. Just never made sense to us!?!

I saw this and thought, gee the same thing happend to Debbie - then I looked over and saw who posted it! :lmao:

We always lock our bikes plus put something on the handlebars to easily be able to spot ours from all the rest. At the end of the day its dark and you are tired. Last trip we used our lime green Home Depo Mickey head.

We always use our bikes and have never locked them up. I never had a problem and am usually camping during the holiday seasons.

When we were there this past weekend, I did take notice of the abundance of unlocked bikes. The fort did seem emptier then usual, I kept my bike locked the whole time because I love it and would be devastated if it went missing.

We lock our bikes at the Marina, when we know we will spend a long long time at MK but never lock it anywhere else, my girls had brand new bikes on this trip, and we nbever had a problem.

We park them all day as well and come home late in the evening, so we need our headlights. Both our headlights and tailights were stolen a couple of years ago at the marina, so we now take them off and carry them around all day. Not that they are expensive, but we really need them to ride back at night. We lock our bikes and take our lights.

and you might want to put a baggie over the seat or keep a baggie to put over the seat when you get back in case it rained.
